Item Assessing the Influence of Transformational Leadership on Project Success: Role of Team Building Dimensions(Library Informtion Services, CUI Lahore, 2017) Hafiz Fakhar Abbas; CIIT/FA13-MSPM-003/LHR; Dr. Faisal Tehseen Shah; LHR TP 4860This study examines the impact of transformational leadership on project success in presence of team building dimensions (goal setting, interpersonal relations, role clarification and problem solving) (as mediators) in construction sector of Pakistan. If manager has the characteristics of transformational leadership can help ensure the success of the project even at a large scale. They actually inspire the followers to perform better and even beyond their expectations to foster healthy relationship. Similarly, a transformational leader may incorporate the team building dimensions in the project teams. With transformational leadership, team building dimensions also becomes the part of the team creation which ultimately impact the performance of the project team. This will help team members even in the absence of the team leader. Data collection was done using questionnaire. These questionnaires were distributed to the project managers in the construction sector of Pakistan. Findings suggest that there exists a significant relationship of transformational leadership and project success. There also exists a significant relationship between team building dimensions (goal setting, role clarification and problem solving except interpersonal relations) and project success. Future research dimensions and recommendations are also presented. Although organizations put a lot of effort in making the project a successful in order to gain financial, economic and organizational growth. So a successful project can boost morale within organization along with the substantial financial growth and customer’s satisfaction. But often the execution of project faces failure. There are lot of factors involved in the failure of projects which includes the hard skill i.e. technical and the soft skill i.e. emotional intelligence, leadership etc. But recent researchers are pointing to the importance of soft skill to make a project successful. This research used a quantitative approach to comprehend how soft skill i.e. emotional intelligence (EI) of manager plays part in project success. In this study a model associating emotional intelligence to project success was tested and the mediating effects of two work attitudes i.e. job satisfaction and trust was examined on this association. The quantitative facts were gather from 286 managerial persons involved in construction firms of Lahore. Statistical tests shows that there is a positive association between EI and project success. Also this relationship is partially mediated by Job Satisfaction and Trust variables. This study will help the organizations to select a suitable candidate having high emotional intelligence in order to make the project successful. Also this study shows organizations that having high job satisfaction and trust among the team members will significantly affect the success of the project. As far as theoretical aspect, it fulfill the need of testing and validating the relationship of EI and project success along with the mediating effect of work attitudes i.e. Job Satisfaction and Trust. But there are certain problems related to the inefficient utilization of the human resource in this sector which has resulted in high project failure rates. This study was conducted on the premise that appropriateness of leadership style could address this issue and improve project success in IT industry of the country. Further, there is also indication that there is lack of theoretical and empirical development on leadership in the field of project management. This study thus, assessed the impact of leadership style on the project success in IT industry of Pakistan, whereby team readiness was taken as moderating variable. Using survey methodology, data was collected from 252 respondents and analysis of the data revealed interesting indications. It was found that transformational leadership, transactional leadership and laissez-faire leadership yielded a positive impact on the project success. Further, team readiness was found to have moderated the impact of leadership on the project success. Most important leadership style in IT industry remained transactional leadership in context of team readiness, while transformational leadership become negative after inclusion of the team readiness and laissez-faire leadership became insignificant. These findings are sector specific and are related to the specific dynamics of IT industry of Pakistan, which is characterized by human resource exploitation, high stress, excessive demand for innovation and semi-skilled nature of the human resource.Item Impact of Empowering Leadership on Project Success: Mediating Effect of Knowledge Acquisition and Knowledge Sharing in Software Industry of Pakistan(Library Informtion Services, CUI Lahore, 2018) Kashif Latif; CIIT/FA14-MSPM-004/ LHR; Dr. Hafiz Zahid Mahmood; LHR TP 5207Project success is a vital concept in software industry for competitive advantage, continued existence and economic development in present dynamic business settings. Employees must have knowledge sharing among themselves and employees must learn latest knowledge while solving software project problems. The direct relation of empowering leadership and project success and the mediating role of knowledge acquisition and knowledge sharing between empowering leadership and project success is examined in this study. The current study is conducted in projects department of registered software houses located in Lahore, Pakistan. Data was collected from software development organizations for fulfillment of the study objectives from employees operating at manager and team level positions in the sector. Firsthand information was collected by using questionnaire survey method. Only 420 responses were submitted back by the respondents out of the total number of questionnaires distributed which consisted of 600 respondents. Out of 420, 394 questionnaires were usable among the submitted responses. Regression analysis was used to test the proposed relationships of the study. Study results were in line with theories supporting these associations and revealed that empowering leadership, knowledge acquisition and knowledge sharing were significantly positively associated with project success. Moreover, for mediation analysis multiple regression analysis as suggested by Baron and Kenny (1986) was performed. The results declared that both the knowledge sharing and knowledge acquisition partially mediated the relationship between empowering leadership behavior of the managers and project success. The leadership of empowerment is beneficial for the organization in order to contribute the knowledge sharing and knowledge acquisition, which add its contribution into project success.
