Construction firms are failing to deliver successful projects as they become shorthanded on cash due to irregular progress payments of projects from clients. The application of best cash flow management techniques are becoming more and more desirable for the project to be profitable and successful. So, the core objective of the study is to find the best ‘cash flow management practices’ applicable in the construction firms of Pakistan and effects of these practices on the project success. Data will be through a structured questionnaire focused towards the financial and project managers of 20 construction firms located in Punjab Province. Empirical data is tested by using SPSS technique and results are deduced. All the hypotheses of the study are validated. The results showed that cash flow management practices i.e. self-financing practices and debt-financing practices have a positive impact on success of a construction project. Performing cash flow forecasting increases the chances of getting successful project. Hence, Project Manager (PM) has to select best possible combination of cash flow management practices for keeping the balance between cash outflow and cash inflow, as he has highest authority while working on a projectItem The Impact of Transformational Leadership Style on Project Success through Teamwork; The Moderating Role of Inter-Organizational Relationships(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) Muhammad Fahad Mateen; CIIT/FA17-RPM-007/LHR; Dr. Ammar Abid; LHR TP 6385In modern times, the number of projects is exponentially increasing and organizations are becoming more and more Project-oriented with every passing day. Project Success has become the ultimate target for every Organization and Project Manager. However, Project Success rates have not been as high as these organizations and managers would desire. Research is still being done to understand and identify the elements of project success and mitigate the probability of failure of projects. Till date, multiple components have been identified that influence project success including characteristics of a project manager, role of organization and inter-personal skill etc. The research is an attempt to further probe into the role of Project Manager, Project Team and Organization to understand their contribution in project success. Previous studies have proved that Teamwork and Transformational leadership have a significant impact on project success. This study extends the horizons of this relationship by including an external influencing factor i.e., Inter-organizational Relationship (IOR) to validate its influence on project success within public plus private sectors. A quantitative study was conducted considering the firms operating in Lahore, Pakistan as the subject population of the research. A sample size of 222 was considered and an approach of convenience sampling was adapted to collect data through questionnaires. Regression was applied on the primary data acquired from the respondents which proved that the Project Manager’s Transformational Leadership Style has a substantial and constructive effect on quality of teamwork, wherein teamwork acts as a mediator between project manager’s style of leadership and Project Success. Furthermore, the Inter-Organizational Relationship act as a moderator between the relationship of Project Manager’s Transformational Leadership style and Project Success. Through data collected from Project Managers of firms operating in Lahore, Pakistan, the study allows to express a bigger picture towards the role of Project Manager, Project Teams and Organization leading to Project Success. In theory, incorporation of external ix constraints like IOR and their influence on Project Success completely changes the dimensions of previous studies and articulates the fact that Projects are an open-system rather than a closed-system and should be studied as is, in order to achieve more accurate results.Item Conflict Management style and project success, moderating role of team effectiveness(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2024) Laiba Riaz; SP22-RPM-002; Dr. Zafar Uz Zaman Anjum; LHR TP 9420The impact of Conflict Management practices on Project Success is explored, with a specific focus on Team effectiveness observed during a project in various software houses in Lahore, Pakistan. If manager has the characteristics of transformational leadership can help ensure the success of the project even at a large scale. They actually inspire the followers to perform better and even beyond their expectations to foster healthy relationship. Similarly, a transformational leader may incorporate the team building dimensions in the project teams. With transformational leadership, team building dimensions also becomes the part of the team creation which ultimately impact the performance of the project team. This will help team members even in the absence of the team leader. Data collection was done using questionnaire. These questionnaires were distributed to the project managers in the construction sector of Pakistan. Findings suggest that there exists a significant relationship of transformational leadership and project success. There also exists a significant relationship between team building dimensions (goal setting, role clarification and problem solving except interpersonal relations) and project success. Future research dimensions and recommendations are also presented. KItem Role of Emotional Intelligence on Project Success along with the mediating role of Job Satisfaction and Trust(Library Informtion Services, CUI Lahore, 2019) Syed Sajjad Ahmad Bilgrami; CIIT/FA17-RPM-001/LHR; Dr. Muhammad Usman; LHR TP 5704Number of projects are increasing exponentially every year. Although organizations put a lot of effort in making the project a successful in order to gain financial, economic and organizational growth. So a successful project can boost morale within organization along with the substantial financial growth and customer’s satisfaction. But often the execution of project faces failure. There are lot of factors involved in the failure of projects which includes the hard skill i.e. technical and the soft skill i.e. emotional intelligence, leadership etc. But recent researchers are pointing to the importance of soft skill to make a project successful. This research used a quantitative approach to comprehend how soft skill i.e. emotional intelligence (EI) of manager plays part in project success. In this study a model associating emotional intelligence to project success was tested and the mediating effects of two work attitudes i.e. job satisfaction and trust was examined on this association. The quantitative facts were gather from 286 managerial persons involved in construction firms of Lahore. Statistical tests shows that there is a positive association between EI and project success. Also this relationship is partially mediated by Job Satisfaction and Trust variables. This study will help the organizations to select a suitable candidate having high emotional intelligence in order to make the project successful. Also this study shows organizations that having high job satisfaction and trust among the team members will significantly affect the success of the project. As far as theoretical aspect, it fulfill the need of testing and validating the relationship of EI and project success along with the mediating effect of work attitudes i.e. Job Satisfaction and Trust. But there are certain problems related to the inefficient utilization of the human resource in this sector which has resulted in high project failure rates. This study was conducted on the premise that appropriateness of leadership style could address this issue and improve project success in IT industry of the country. Further, there is also indication that there is lack of theoretical and empirical development on leadership in the field of project management. This study thus, assessed the impact of leadership style on the project success in IT industry of Pakistan, whereby team readiness was taken as moderating variable. Using survey methodology, data was collected from 252 respondents and analysis of the data revealed interesting indications. It was found that transformational leadership, transactional leadership and laissez-faire leadership yielded a positive impact on the project success. Further, team readiness was found to have moderated the impact of leadership on the project success. Most important leadership style in IT industry remained transactional leadership in context of team readiness, while transformational leadership become negative after inclusion of the team readiness and laissez-faire leadership became insignificant. These findings are sector specific and are related to the specific dynamics of IT industry of Pakistan, which is characterized by human resource exploitation, high stress, excessive demand for innovation and semi-skilled nature of the human resource.Item Impact of Empowering Leadership on Project Success: Mediating Effect of Knowledge Acquisition and Knowledge Sharing in Software Industry of Pakistan(Library Informtion Services, CUI Lahore, 2018) Kashif Latif; CIIT/FA14-MSPM-004/ LHR; Dr. Hafiz Zahid Mahmood; LHR TP 5207Project success is a vital concept in software industry for competitive advantage, continued existence and economic development in present dynamic business settings. Employees must have knowledge sharing among themselves and employees must learn latest knowledge while solving software project problems. The direct relation of empowering leadership and project success and the mediating role of knowledge acquisition and knowledge sharing between empowering leadership and project success is examined in this study. The current study is conducted in projects department of registered software houses located in Lahore, Pakistan. Data was collected from software development organizations for fulfillment of the study objectives from employees operating at manager and team level positions in the sector. Firsthand information was collected by using questionnaire survey method. Only 420 responses were submitted back by the respondents out of the total number of questionnaires distributed which consisted of 600 respondents. Out of 420, 394 questionnaires were usable among the submitted responses. Regression analysis was used to test the proposed relationships of the study. Study results were in line with theories supporting these associations and revealed that empowering leadership, knowledge acquisition and knowledge sharing were significantly positively associated with project success. Moreover, for mediation analysis multiple regression analysis as suggested by Baron and Kenny (1986) was performed. The results declared that both the knowledge sharing and knowledge acquisition partially mediated the relationship between empowering leadership behavior of the managers and project success. The leadership of empowerment is beneficial for the organization in order to contribute the knowledge sharing and knowledge acquisition, which add its contribution into project success. Both concepts are at the forefront of the fairly recent drive to revisit and re-conceptualize the theory and practice of project management, as evidenced by comprehensive initiatives such as Rethinking Project Management. A key recommendation of said initiative is to shift focus from product creation to value creation. This is fueled by the increasingly large body of evidence that the majority of projects fail to meet success criteria. Adding to the urgency is the increasing pressure from business managers for projects to justify their value contribution to the organization. In this context, project governance and BRM are vital for ensuring that projects deliver expected business benefits and value. In doing so, these concepts help align project outcomes with organizational strategy. This study aims to address an important gap in the literature: the relationships between project governance and BRM, and their effects on project success. These relationships were based on 326 responses from Pakistan’s burgeoning IT & Software sector, which is increasingly becoming vital for the country’s future economic growth as Pakistan transitions from an industrial to service-based economy. The findings of this study indicate that the aspects of project governance included in this study have a positive significant effect on both BRM and Project Success. Also, it is found that BRM mediates the relationship between two aspects of project governance, namely Relational Governance and Governance of Project Management (GoPM), and Project Success. The results supports the overall proposition of this study that strong project governance creates the context in which effective BRM can occur. For the theory of project management, specifically project governance and BRM, this study hopes to contribute much needed empirical evidence to the literature and responds to recent calls for research on BRM. Additionally, this study attempts to adapt a scale for the GoPM concept, which fills an important gap in the existing operationalizations of different aspects of project governance and may prove useful for future academic studies. For the practice of project management, this study hopes to initiate a discussion on how project governance and BRM may be integrated to support the achievement of organizational strategic objectives through projects and programs. Furthermore, this research aims to assess the current levels of, and create awareness of the developments in, project governance and BRM in Pakistan. This should help organizations to not only improve the success rates of their projects but also to extract business value from projects.
