Item Perceived Social Support, Self Esteem and Resilience in University Student(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Aima Adil; SP20-BPY-026; Dr Mahira Ahmed; LHR TP 8868This study was designed to explore the correlation between perceived social support, self- esteem and resilience in university students. A sample of 300 participants (Males = 150, Female = 150) from COMSATS University Lahore, was selected through convenient sampling technique. To assess the relationship between study variables, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale, and the Brief Resilience Scale questionnaire were used. Results of the study indicated a significant correlation of perceived social support with self-esteem and resilience. The present research contributes to relevant empirical literature for future researchers.Item Attitude towards English Language Learning, Procrastination and Language Learning Outcomes among Undergraduate Students in Lahore, Pakistan(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Wasiqa Aslam; F19-BPY-052; Dr. Shameem Fatima; LHR TP 8399The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the association between attitudes towards English language learning, procrastination and language learning outcomes among undergraduate students in Lahore, Pakistan. It further aimed to examine whether gender and residential setup moderated academic procrastination and attitude towards English language learning. To conduct the study, a sample of 500 undergraduate students, ranging in age 17 to 25 years (M=21.33, SD=1.88) were selected from different private and public universities of Lahore, Pakistan. The Convenient sampling technique was used to approach the participants. The Academic Procrastination Scale (McCloskey, 2011), Questionnaire of attitudes toward learning English (Uribe et al., 2008) were used to assess the Academic procrastination and attitude towards English language learning respectively. Correlation and Regression analysis were used to test the hypothesis. The result showed that academic procrastination negatively correlated with attitude towards English language learning that showed that students whose procrastination level was higher had less positive attitude towards English language learning and secured low GPA. The significant moderating role of gender between academic procrastination and attitude towards English language learning showed no significant moderation by gender. However, gender group differences were significant. Such that male university students score higher on academic procrastination as compared to female university students and female university students who scored higher on attitude towards English language learning and secured higher GPA then male university students. Moreover, moderating role of residential setup in association between academic procrastination and attitude towards English language, was significant and showed that the association was stronger in university students from rural setup compare to urban setup. Additional findings showed that the students from urban areas have higher academic procrastination compare to those belonging to rural areas, students from rural areas they showed more positive attitude towards English language learning and secured higher GPA as compared to those students who belong to urban areas. Implications of the current study have been discussed.Item Psychological Capital, Religious Coping, and Mental Well-Being In Engineers(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Samra Arshad; FA19-BPY-051; Dr. Shameem Fatima; LHR TP 8398The present study aimed at assessing the direct and indirect association between the psychological capital, religious coping and mental well-being among engineers. In the study the psychological capital was assessed from four factors namely hope, optimism, resilience and self- efficacy. Religious coping was assessed from two factors namely positive religious coping and negative religious coping. A sample that comprised of 499 participants was selected through purposive sampling technique ranging in age from 29-45 year (M = 33.43, SD = 6.808). Participants were assessed on the Psychological Capital scale which was used to assess the hope, self-efficacy, optimism and resilience; The 14 item Brief RCOPE scale which was used to assess the positive and negative religious coping; and The 14 item Mental Well-Being Questionnaire which was used to assess the mental health. The results showed that two subscales of psychological capital hope and self-efficacy out of the four were positively correlated with mental well-being, positive religious coping was positively correlated with mental well-being, and negative religious coping was not significantly correlated with mental well-being. Finding from mediation model showed that positive religious coping significantly mediated the association between self-efficacy and mental well-being.Item MODERATING ROLE OF SOCIAL SUPPORT BETWEEN PERSONALITY TRAITS AND EMOTIONAL REGULATION IN UNIVERSITY HOSTEL STUDENTS(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Nadia Ashraf; FA19-BPY-050; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8397This study was designed to explore the moderating role of social support between personality traits and emotional regulation. In this correlational study, participants were hostel students aging between 18-24 (M=20.84, SD= 1.45). Convenient sampling strategy was used to select participants and data was collected from the hostels of two govt. universities Lahore, Pakistan. Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, The Personality Inventory for DSM-5, Brief Form and Emotional Regulation Questionnaire were used to assess moderating role of social support between personality traits and emotional regulation. Results indicated the significant moderating role of social support between personality traits and emotional regulation. Only two subscales of personality traits (antagonism and disinhibition) were correlated with the subscales of emotional regulation (cognitive reappraisal and emotional suppression). The findings of the study demonstrated that social support has a significant positive relationship between personality traits and emotional regulationItem Effect of Coping Methods on Virtues of Positive Psychology in Language Learning Among University Students(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Wardah Fatima; FA19-BPY-031; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8383The current study examined the effect of coping on virtues of positive psychology in language learning among university students, memory deficits, this research also analyze the relationship or association between coping and virtues of positive psychology in language learning and gender differences of using coping methods on virtues of positive psychology in language learning. The questionnaire was completed by 500 participants (University students, Male students: 250, Female students: 250). Inventory of Positive Psychology in Language Learning (IPPLL) and Coping Scale both tools were used. The correlational analysis demonstrated that Coping is positively associated with inventory of positive psychology in language learning, furthermore the use of t-test in analysis shows that female students are more likely to use coping methods on virtues of positive psychology in language learning then male students of university. This study is a unique contribution to students and teachers in academic settings as it will help to understand the how the use of coping methods may help students while confronting the positive psychology in language learning among students who face difficulties to learn English language whenever they switch from college to university. This will also help the researchers find the ways to improve language learning by using positive psychology and coping methods in academic settings.Item PSYCHOLOGICAL FLEXIBILITY, SELF-ESTEEM AND TEST ANXIETY IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS(2023) FARDA ASIF; FA19-BPY-024; DR. SHAZIA GULZAR; LHR TP 8379The present study focused on the association psychological flexibility, self-esteem and test anxiety in university students of Pakistan. In this co-relational study, the sample consisted of 300 adults selected through convenient sampling technique, equally distributed across men and women with ages between 19 to 25 (M=1.49, SD=0.507). These participants were selected from 5 public sector universities of Lahore. Self-report measures including the demographic questionnaire, The Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-2 (AAQ-2), The Self-esteem Scale (SES) and West side Test Anxiety Scale (WSTAS) were used to assess the study’s variables. Correlation analysis demonstrated that there was no relationship between psychological flexibility, self- esteem and test anxiety. But psychological flexibility was negatively correlated with test anxiety. Independent t-test analysis demonstrated that there was no significant gender difference in terms of psychological flexibility, self-esteem and test anxiety. MANOVA analysis also indicated that mother’s education was impact on participant’s psychological flexibility. The results of this study will contribute to the existing literature on psychological factors influencing university students, offering practical implications for educational institutions, counselors, and policymakers seeking to create a supportive and conducive learning environment. The results of research are discussed in the light of Pakistani cultural context.Item Poor Sleep Quality, Overthinking and Mental Well-Being in Young Adults(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Maryam Ghaffar; FA19-BPY-023; Dr. Shameem Fatima; LHR TP 8378The current study aimed to evaluate the association between poor sleep quality, overthinking, and mental well-being. It was hypothesized that there would be an association between poor sleep quality, overthinking, and mental well-being in young adults. Moreover, overthinking would mediate the association between poor sleep quality and mental well-being in young adults. A sample of 488 young adults, including men (n = 244) and women (n = 244) ranging in age from 19 to 25 years (M = 20.38, and SD = 1.76) was taken from different private and government sector universities. Convenience sampling strategy was used to approach participants and data collection. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (Buysse et al., 1989), Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire (Tennant et al., 2007), and Warwick Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (Warwick & Edinburgh, 2008) were employed to assess the levels of sleep quality, overthinking, and mental well-being. Pearson product-moment correlation and mediation analysis through AMOS were used to test hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed that poor sleep quality is correlated with overthinking and mental well-being in young adults. Overthinking was found to have a positive association with poor sleep quality and a negative association with mental well-being. Furthermore, overthinking was mediating the relation between poor sleep quality and mental well-being. The present study has implications in social, counseling, and educational psychology. Limitations, implications, and future directions of the current study were also discussed.Item BURNOUT, PERFECTIONISM AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS OF PAKISTAN(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) RUMAN JAMIL; FA19-BPY-012; DR. MUNEEBA SHAKIL; LHR TP 8371The current study was carried out to determine the association between burnout, perfectionism and psychological distress in university students of Pakistan. It was hypothesized that there will be a statistically significant predictive association between burnout, perfectionism and psychological distress, where perfectionism will act as a predictor between burnout and psychological distress. A sample of 500 participants aged 19-25 (Mean age = 22.06) was selected through simple random sampling technique from different government and private universities of Lahore. Participants responded to demographic information sheet, Perfectionism Scale, Depression, Stress and Anxiety Scale (DASS-21) and Burnout Scale. Analysis revealed that Perfectionism, Depression, and Stress are associated with burnout in university students Furthermore, Correlation analysis suggest that perfectionism is weak positive correlated with burnout and anxiety. Depression is strong positively correlated with anxiety and stress. Anxiety is strong positively correlated with stress, and stress is weak positively correlated with burnout. The study showed that burnout leads university students towards perfectionism and burnout, perfectionism and psychological distress are associated with each other. The present research also contributes to relevant empirical information and evidence in Pakistani Literature. All the participants were students of semester 1 to 4 studying second language courses. The total number of participants in this research were 400. Men to women proportionate of participants was (50:50) between age of 18- 29 (M:19.78, SD:1.26). To gather data from the participants, convenience sampling strategy was employed, and all the data was collected face-to-face in classrooms Participants were assessed through one questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of The Foreign Language Enjoyment Scale (FLES) which is used to measure enjoyment of language learning. Findings from independent sample t test showed that there is no association of gender difference in foreign language learning enjoyment among university students. While there found association between different school backgrounds. The results of research are discussed in the light of Pakistani cultural context.Item Role of Scrupulosity, Religiosity and Shame in Patients Diagnosed with OCD(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Maleeha Athar; FA19-BPY-020; LHR TP 8376Role of Scrupulosity, Religiosity, and Shame in Patients Diagnosed with OCD” explores the psychological and emotional factors influencing the severity and manifestation of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The study examines how scrupulosity—characterized by excessive moral or religious concerns—interacts with levels of religiosity to shape obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. It also investigates the role of shame as a critical emotional factor that may intensify symptoms, hinder help-seeking behavior, and impact treatment outcomes. By analyzing these interconnected variables, the research aims to provide deeper insights into culturally sensitive assessment and therapeutic interventions for individuals suffering from OCD.
