Abstract:
The biggest urea producer in the nation, Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (FFC), was
established on May 8, 1978 as a joint venture by M/s Haldor Topsoe A/S of Denmark and
the Pakistani Fauji Foundation. It was founded to close the anticipated gap between
domestic production and demand. The Fauji Foundation owns 44% of the company's
shares, along with a number of other individuals, financial institutions, and investment
firms. On May 31, 2002, the Company bought Pak Saudi Fertilizer Limited (PSFL) through
the privatization process
Since 1994, FFC has been listed among Pakistan's top 25 companies based on factors
primarily related to the amount of dividends paid out by the Karachi Stock Exchange. In
June 1982, FFC started its commercial production. Every year, it sells more than 3 million
tons of fertilizers, of which 2.8 million tons are urea and 0.5 million tons are both imported
and locally produced fertilizers. Urea has been exported to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri
Lanka, Thailand, China, Iran, the Philippines, India, and Tanzania. Its market share for
urea is 60%.
