Abstract
This research endeavours to address the question of how to enhance project management performance by looking at the relationships among project governance and construction project management performance in three cities of Pakistan. The proposed components of project governance are portfolio direction, project sponsorship as well as project effectiveness & efficiency, and disclosure & reporting whereas the project management performance is measured in terms of time, cost, quality, safety, and client satisfaction. The research utilizes an empirical survey methodology. The questionnaire was administered to 300 construction employees working in private companies of CA category in three well known cities of Pakistan and out of 300 questionnaires 190 were received out of them 161 were usable responses or a response rate of 53.66%. Self-administered questionnaire were distributed among respondents by using non probability sampling technique. The data was analyzed by using software, called SPSS AMOS. The results suggest that project governance has a positive impact on project management performance. Moreover, this study found that three dimensions of project governance, i.e., portfolio direction, project sponsorship as well as project effectiveness & efficiency, and disclosure & reporting are positively associated with project management performance. In addition, in this study the moderating effect of top management support has strengthened the relationship between project governance and project management performance. These findings provide evidence to project management professionals in regard to project governance being part of the operational strategy in facilitating the success of projects.
