Abstract

Selling, sharing, bartering, purchasing, and consuming is as old as the existence of humans. People used cows and sheep as their currency exchange back in 9000 BC in Mesopotamia. The first retail store started around 800 BC in ancient Greece when markets were developed. That’s the very earliest history of retailing, what happened in between is that “Mom and Pop” store which was a family-owned small business started in the United States in the 18th century. They offered daily life merchandise and groceries. Departmental stores stepped in the Mid 1800s and early 1900s. Where people just don’t purchase daily items but also furniture and luxuries. The first cash register was invented in 1883 by James Ritty and named it “Incorruptible cashier”. It was used for recording sales and when the sale is completed it rings the bell. Shopping Malls were introduced in the 1950s. I
