Smart Blocking System

Abstract

Internet censorship is a way in which an authority has its control over the user’s surfing over the web. It includes the control of what can be seen viewed, accessed or published over the web. Internet censorship is applied over the web traffic due to some religious, business or moral reasons. Today internet surfing is becoming an issue which requires great attention of ISPs in almost every part of the world and they are trying to solve these issues by different ways. Some websites are not required in the community and the presence of such websites/blogs etc is harmful for the users due to some cultural, non-cultural, political or non-political reasons. After considering all these problems faced by our community we are introducing a smart blocking system which will act as a URL filtering and blocking system and is implemented on the basis of the current techniques used by some authorities and countries to filter internet traffic (e.g. PTA in Pakistan, Great firewall of china in china which is also known as golden shield project, Iran etc.) in order to get rid of unwanted and harmful internet traffic. Our Smart blocking system has two major components which are smart blocking system-proxy server and smart blocking system-parental control which allows the users a safe and secure use of the internet. The Smart blocking system-parental control provides the facility to block the URLs that the user does not want to be opened by the browser while surfing over the internet. This can be done by just entering the URL to be blocked in the provided space in our smart blocking system-parental control. We have a database in our system containing the URLS of the blocked websites which will be entered by the user of smart blocking system-parental control. This database has the facility of Updating, entering and removing URLs. The Smart blocking system-proxy server is working on an open source proxy server named as JPROXY. We have utilized this open source proxy server according to our requirements and have modified it for blocking/bypassing the websites and advertisements on the basis of keywords. The user will connect to the smart blocking system-proxy server. System will then allow an access to all the websites that are not present in database and restricts them from the websites that are there in the database. Our proxy server filters the URL on the basis of keyword filtering. We have our own database so that we could block/bypass websites based on the URLs and keywords present in websites that have inappropriate content in them .Another facility our system is providing is the blocking of advertisements which sometimes becomes very irritating and annoying for the users. Our system also provides the facility of packet capturing for monitoring the traffic over the internet.
