(Library Information Services COMSATS University Islamabad Lahore Campus, 2020-02-08) Mohsin Bashir; SP17-RPM-009; LHR TP 6058; Dr. Ammar Abid
Cash flow management is very vital for the survival of any kind of firm but for a construction firm, its importance increases as a lot of firms are being bankrupted due to poor cash flow management. Construction firms are failing to deliver successful projects as they become shorthanded on cash due to irregular progress payments of projects from clients. The application of best cash flow management techniques are becoming more and more desirable for the project to be profitable and successful. So, the core objective of the study is to find the best ‘cash flow management practices’ applicable in the construction firms of Pakistan and effects of these practices on the project success. Data will be through a structured questionnaire focused towards the financial and project managers of 20 construction firms located in Punjab Province. Empirical data is tested by using SPSS technique and results are deduced. All the hypotheses of the study are validated. The results showed that cash flow management practices i.e. self-financing practices and debt-financing practices have a positive impact on success of a construction project. Performing cash flow forecasting increases the chances of getting successful project. Hence, Project Manager (PM) has to select best possible combination of cash flow management practices for keeping the balance between cash outflow and cash inflow, as he has highest authority while working on a project

(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2019) Umar Munir; SP17-RPM-003; Dr. Ahmad Nawaz; LHR TP 5699
The main focus of this study is to inquire about the impact of control on process performance with the moderating role of risk in the information technology industry of Lahore, Pakistan. Finding the impacts of control types and moderating roles of risk types on process performance is the main contribution of this study because the information technology industry of Pakistan is facing problems of lack of control and risk. Empirical data is collected from large and medium scale information technology companies based in Lahore city. Empirical data is tested by using SPSS technique and results are deduced. All the hypotheses of the study are validated. The results showed that informal control and formal control has a positive impact on process performance because to enhance better control is improving the chances of better process performance. User and requirement risk are used as moderating variables. It is found that user risk and requirement risk have a negative impact on the relationship between control and process performance. Both of these risk lead to miss commitments and process performance is compromised. Hence, it is the responsibility of Project Manager (PM) to enhance control of the project and to avoid, reduce or minimize the unfavourable effects of user and requirement risk on process performance.

Corporate Governance, Risk Governance and Performance of Banks: Evidence from Asian Economies
(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2019) Fauzia Saeed; SP17-RMS-002; Dr. Ammar Abid; LHR TP 5694
Banks are important entities for growth of economy. Their opaque nature of business has focused the need to study their governance system. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of corporate governance and risk governance on performance and risk of banks during period 2010 2017 for sample of Asian economies banks. The performance of banks is measured by ROA (return on assets), ROE (return on equity) and Tobin’s Q as used in prior studies. Three types of risks are investigated that are default risk, credit risk and liquidity risk. The results show positive relationship of institutional shareholdings and negative relationship of ownership concentration and CEO duality with performance and negative relationship of institutional shareholdings with risk of banks. Also risk governance is not effective in terms of performance but results suggests that small size of risk committee who meets frequently and chief risk officer that repots direct to board is of significant importance for the stability of banks, its credit risk and liquidity risk as well. The results also demonstrate that risk governance and corporate governance is not much effective for risk and performance of state owned banks than private banks. Islamic banks and conventional banks results suggest that risk governance and corporate governance practices impact conventional banks more effectively than Islamic banks. At the end, protection of investor’s right and enforcement of law also shows positive relationship with performance of banks and negatively related to risk than means countries with effective enforcement of law and where investor’s rights are protected, positively impact performance of banks and it decreases risk of banks. With effective protection of investor’s right and enforcement of law in any country, risk governance and corporate governance will have effective impact on performance and risk of banks as well. All these results hold when bank specific variables and country factors are controlled.

In order to thoroughly understand the above relationship, the study proposed ineffective contract application as a mediating mechanism. The study also established the moderating effects of detailed contract drafting on quality performance ambiguity and contractor’s opportunistic behavior. Data for the current study were collected through a structured survey from the clients who were awarded project to constructor firms registered with Pakistan Engineering Council. A confirmatory test was employed to test the validity and reliability of the measure. Test of hypotheses was performed through structural models. The results revealed that quality performance ambiguity and ineffective contacts application had significant and positive effect on opportunistic behaviors. However, detailed contact drafting had significant and negative effect on opportunistic behavior. Further, the ineffective contract application had partially mediated on quality performance ambiguity and opportunistic behavior. Further, the detailed contact drafting significantly but positively affected moderated on quality performance ambiguity and opportunistic behavior. Based on the study results, implications for the theory and practice had been drawn. Keywords: Detailed contract drafting, Ineffective contract application, Quality performance ambiguity, Opportunistic behavior, Pakistan Engineering Council.

(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) Muhammad Hassan Nasir; SP17-RPM-008; Dr. Muhammad Ali Jibran Qamar; LHR TP 6541
The concept of contractual hiring is gradually increasing with the latest innovations as now days the trend of Project-based organization is dominant and people are hired on contractual basis. The project-based structured organizations are known as „Projectification‟ and these are considered as the gateway to the innovation. Human resource management and traditional trends of hiring the permanent employees is different for contractual hiring. Similarly, the temporary employees have different concerns at their workplace in contrast to the permanent employees. Due to which, the organizational commitment is affected. The employees hired on the contractual terms face different set of challenges related to work-life balance, job security and morale. These factors influence the productivity levels of the project targets. In lieu of considered condition, it is observed that employees hired on the temporary basis are less committed to the project deliverable which leads to unscheduled turnovers of the employees. These turnovers have an impact on the organizational performance. In order to sustain the growing market challenges, the organizations need to lower the turnover rate of the employees and need to work on the low morale and other associated factors. For statistical analysis, data is gathered from the Pakistan‟s largest IT industry as Pakistan is one of the leading exporters of software industry. The IT industry in developing country hires employees on the contractual basis. In order to collect data, a questionnaire is formatted and data from IT industry employees of the Pakistan is target population. A quantitative data collection technique is used to collect data and AMOS is used for the data analysis

(Library Information Services COMSATS University Islamabad Lahore Campus, 2020-02-04) Hafiz Ikrama Muhammad Chohan; FA17-BBA-135; LHR TP 6788; Prof. Shumyla Anwar
Employees always remain most desirable assets for the organizations. They are the only source to earn profitability, to compete the market and to make good corporate image in the world. But this only happens when employees feel motivated to do their jobs. Organizations critically identify work-oriented employees and give them motivation in a form of good compensation plan after they got selected for required job. This general motivation framework helps them to achieve their expected outcome and keep them engaged with the organization for a longer period(Human Resource Development: Jon M. Werner). compensation plans itself is a broader range of salary packages, bonuses, incentives, rewards, allowances promotion etc. Employees always have the knowledge about the common salary structure that is offered by many organizations. Employee’s involvement with the organization gradually start decreasing when they feel any kind of discrimination in terms if they are fairly treated, evaluated and compensated or not. Organizations must compensate their employees to keep balance and to avoid future conflicts. It is a vital responsibility for human resource department to make their compensation plans transparent which help them to improve effectiveness. A good compensation plans helps to retain the best employees with them.
