How Does Stakeholder Engagement Influence Patient Recovery From Substance Use Disorder? A Case Study of Drug Rehabilitation Project
(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) M. Asif; FA20-RPM-009; Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Aslam; LHR TP 7961
The focus of this study is to examine the impact of ‘Stakeholder Engagement on patient recovery from substance use disorder (SUD). It is a case study of a substance use disorder (SUD) Rehabilitation Project in Lahore, Punjab Pakistan. To gain a deep understanding of the phenomenon the study deployed a qualitative research approach because the objective of the study is not to yield generalizable findings through numeric data collection from a large sample. AAS Trust is a case organization, and its completely treated patients (who passed through all the treatment phases) are the population of the study. Fifteen in-depth interviews (including patients, their families, representatives of the Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and officials of the AAS Trust) were conducted during the data collection process. The participants were approached through the convenient snowball sampling method. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, field notes, and documentary analyses who argued to be effective to collect in-depth qualitative data. An interview guide has been developed initially to organize, conduct, and structure the interviews by considering the complexity of the phenomena with its essential structure and techniques. Questions about stakeholders' engagement in treatment phases were developed in the guide. The grounded theory method is operated systematically for data analysis. Data collection and analysis were carried out simultaneously after systematic combining to take into account new themes related to the phenomenon under study. The study pursues the ethical principles offered by Patton (2008). Based on the data analysis findings from the current qualitative case study are presented in two core categories first, the patient’s support system’ in this core category the process of support system formation and the role of key stakeholders in the support system are discussed one by one with the evidence presented from several interviews. The second core category is ‘patient recovery from substance use disorder’ this core category is further divided into three sub-categories, self-directed motivation, integrated efforts of support ix system in the treatment phase, and integrated efforts of support system in the aftercare/recovery phase. In each sub-category of the second core category, the role of the support system is presented with evidence from several interviews. The results from findings show that stakeholders’ engagement in substance use disorder treatment has a positive impact on the patient’s recovery. In the admission phase, the family of the patient is the most influential stakeholder in initiating the admission of the patient to a Rehabilitation Centre. The self-directed motivation of the patient is the second most influential element in this phase. The officials of the treatment center are the third most influential stakeholder to a patient in the decision-making process to initiate treatment of substance use disorder (SUD). The environment of the rehabilitation center is also an influencing element in the admission process. In the treatment phase, the officials (employees) of the rehabilitation center and the peers of the treatment are the most influential stakeholders as evidenced in the interviews of the participants. The environment of the rehabilitation Centre has also a prominent influence on the treatment of a patient. The family of the patient is the second most influential stakeholder in the treatment phase. In the third phase of the aftercare/recovery phase, the fellowship of Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and the family of the patient are the most influential stakeholder. The institute and/or rehabilitation center and the officials (employees) are the second most influential stakeholder in the aftercare/recovery phase. The peer group of recovery fellows is the third influential stakeholder in the aftercare phase. The theoretical contributions of this study to the existing literature are three; first, ‘the support system’ comprises key stakeholders has a positive impact on a patient’s recovery from substance use disorder (SUD). Second, treatment phases are interconnected productivity of phase based on the successful completion of the other. Third, the peer groups i.e., NA/Recovery fellows have a positive impact on patients’ recovery from substance use disorder (SUD). Moreover, very limited literature on this particular area ‘impact on stakeholders’ engagement in SUD is available in the existing literature, one qualitative study has been conducted before by Alderson, H.; Kaner, E.; et all, 2022, “A Qualitative Exploration of Stakeholder Involvement in Decision-Making for Alcohol Treatment and Prevention Services” but the study only tested one aspect of substance use x disorder treatment i.e., ‘stakeholder involvement in Decision-making for alcohol treatment’ the focus of the current study is to examine the impact of stakeholders engaged in the whole treatment of SUD including recovery phase.

IMPACT OF DIGITAL MARKETING ON CONSUMER BUYING BEHAVIOR WHILE BUYING A SMARTPHONE
(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) Mirza Abdul Hadi Raza; SP17-BBA-140; Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Aslam; LHR TP 6772
Digital marketing and consumer buying behavior are among the most important topics currently researched by marketers as organizations constantly strive to achieve maximum functional efficiency while understanding, influencing and fulfilling its customer’s needs and wants. Organizations seek to motivate their customers to buy their products and services instead of their competitor’s products and services and to do so the foremost tool used for this purpose is marketing. Consumer behavior is a very broad subject but for organizations while selling their products and services, the most important aspect of this subject is the buying behavior because at the end of the day buying translates into revenues. Ever since the advent of digital marketing, the marketing industry has been revolutionized due to its effectiveness while targeting the desired segment. Tiago et al. (2014) while discussing significance of digital marketing concludes that organizations can use digital marketing for strong brand development. Digital medium for interacting with customers, supply chain partners and other stakeholders will lead the organizations to gain competitive advantage in their respective industries. Interacting with the customers helps in engaging the customers and maintaining customer relationships. In this digital era, it is highly unlikely for a firm to remain successful or even survive in the industry with only relying on traditional marketing medium while performing marketing activities.

The effect of Human resource practices on Job commitment of employees in the Banking sector of Pakistan
(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) Haider Nadeem Tarar; FA17-BBA-011; Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Aslam; LHR TP 6807
Employee’s performance reflects how well an organization will perform. Organizations which are successful are understanding that here exists a number of different reasons that influence the job commitment of the employees, but HR practices are considered to be the most important (Mello, 2005). No matter how big or small a company may be, if its employees are not performing well then, the company will ultimately fail. Hence to ensure that a company can succeed, the most important task for any company is to improve its employee’s’ performance and the best way to do that is to make different HR policies that can help the employee’s feel that they are truly being rewarded for what they are doing and the company does care for them. If any organization can develop these kinds of feelings in the heart of the employee’s, then the employee’s will also try to give it their all for an organization and their commitment can even increase by leaps and bounds.

How do marketing channels inform doctors' prescribing behaviors? A qualitative inquiry of pharmaceutical industry
(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2025) Zahid Jamil; FA23-RMS-008; Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Aslam; LHR TP 9826
Pharmaceutical marketing is quite different from consumer marketing. Unlike consumer marketing, Products are promoted to doctors who make prescriptions based on patient needs, product efficacy, safety and compliance. Over the years, face to face drug detailing served as a primary marketing channel. However, technological advancements and rise of marketing channels opened plenty of new horizons in pharma to engage doctors. Webinars, emails, instant messages, social and digital media are some of the most advanced channels. Extant pharma marketing literature is mostly focused on face-to-face marketing and is deficient for these new channels, indicating a direct need to explore these channels. Thus, this research explores how doctors perceive the efficacy of these channels, how these channels help them to make their prescribing decisions, and why they prefer some channels over others. Qualitative research methods are followed here because this phenomenon is still in its infancy, and prior literature doesn’t provide any established relationships between new pharma channels and doctors’ prescribing behavior. Considering the nature of study, purposive sampling technique was used to collect data via semi-structured interviews from general practitioners practicing in central and northern parts of Pakistan. The findings will help pharmaceutical marketers to optimize marketing resources, device personalized marketing campaigns and ultimately increase ROI. Doctors will be saved by excessive pharma marketing promotion, and they can use this time in patient care more effectively.
