Abstract:
This study examined determinants of employee engagement in the textile sector of Pakistan – the case of
Shahkam Industries. The aim was to identify factors that lead to lower levels of employee engagement at
the company, selected one most important factor (turnover intentions), and identified a number of
solutions to enhance overall employee engagement at the tactical level. Relevant literature was
comprehensively analyzed and data were collected from a sample of 44 employees. The data was
analyzed using SPSS. The results established a significantly strong negative relation between turnover
intentions and employee engagement suggesting that higher turnover intentions are related to lower levels
of employee engagement in the textile industry. A number of solutions are suggested to address high
turnover intentions and enhance overall employee engagement including providing clear
communication and job security, opportunities for career growth and development, recognizing
and rewarding performance, involving employees in decision-making, improving work-life
balance, and promoting a positive work environment in the company. Recommendations for
future research have also been discussed in the end.
