Vehicle Recognition System

Abstract

With the advancements in automobile industry, the automobile architecture has also been evolved greatly. Many imported vehicles are getting popular in Pakistan. So, there is a huge variety of vehicles, which includes hatchback cars, sedans and trucks, are running on the roads of Pakistan. This project is basically an android application that is able to recognize a vehicle’s basic characteristics from the image of a vehicle. The characteristics include the name, its manufacturer, generation and year of generation. Image dataset of local vehicles was not available before, this project includes the dataset collection and pre-processing. The dataset encompasses the most common vehicles of Pakistan. As new generations of cars are released every year with changes in shape, system will be able to identify these changes and classify on the bases of vehicle generation/shape. A person with no or a small knowledge of vehicles will be able to identify the vehicle basic characteristics by the help of this application. He/she can inspect the vehicle for various purposes.
