Abstract
GPS (Global Positioning System), is the most widely used navigation technique, but it does
not work inside the buildings or indoors because GPS signals are weak after passing through
massive concrete structures. The prime objective of this project is to provide an indoor
navigation system that can work inside a large building like malls, airports, stations, university
campuses, and hospitals, etc. where people feel it difficult to find a specific location. This
system establishes the position of the user in such a building and then guides the user to his/her
desired indoor destination. The indoor navigation system is based on three distinct components,
a platform for positioning system, signal transmitters or location devices, and an application
on mobile that retrieves and predicts signals. After comparing different technologies, we came
across the fact that BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) is more appropriate for an indoor navigation
system. The final user of the system is provided with the Indoor Navigation System in the form
of an Android application. The application works in with the collaboration of installed
hardware units inside the building. The system is evaluated in a real-time environment, and the
results show that we have achieved an efficiency of up to 60%.
