Women Gender Role Conflict Scale; A Validation Approach

Abstract

Pakistan is a patriarchal society where men are the primary authority figures and women are subordinate. Gender is one of the organizing principles of Pakistani society. Patriarchal values embedded in local traditions, religion and culture predetermine the social value of gender. The purpose of this research was to validate and to develop psychometric properties of Women Gender Role Conflict Scale (WGRCS) developed by Gulzar and Tahir, 2019. All the psychometric properties of WGRCS were computed and ensured. The three scales used in this study were Women Gender Role Conflict Scale (Gulzar & Tahir, 2019), Gender Role Conflict Scale,(Gulzar & Mehmood, 2018) and Problematic Internet Use Scale (Shakeel & Yaseen, 2019). For this purpose a sample of 249 university students whose age ranges from 19-25 were contacted and the data was collected through Google forms. The mean age of the sample was (M=21.76) and (SD = 2.19). Finding indicated good internal consistency with (α=. 92) strong positive correlation of WGRCS with GRCS and a minor or no correlation with Problematic Internet Use Scale, which ensured the convergent and Discriminant validities of WGRCS respectively. Test-retest and split-half reliabilities and face and content validities of WGRCS were also ensured. It was concluded that WGRCS is a reliable and a valid scale and the findings were discussed in the light of Pakistani cultural context.
