Upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and down conversion nanoparticles (DCNPs) have outstanding optical characteristics and are used in a variety of disciplines such as photonics, energy and material design. They describe the mix, material, and optical characteristics, as well as the functionalization of various UCNPs and DCNPs, before focusing on continuing advancements in using usable UCNPs and DCNPs. Because it reduces the heat of biological cells given by 980 nm excitation light, the upconversion luminescence (UCL) of rare earth ions doped nanoparticles stimulated at 808 nm is more acceptable for biological applications than the UCL of rare earth ions doped nanoparticles excited at 980 nm. On the other hand, one of the major challenges to greater UCL application is the poor UCL efficiency of rare earth ions doped nanoparticles activated at 808 nm. There is a problem with rare earth UCNPs that they suffer from low up conversion efficiency and gives quantum yield of maximum 1% because they have small cross section for the absorption because of 4f-4f transition is not allowed by the mean of selection rules so, they are inefficient for practical implementation in a significant number of situations. Thus for the time being, the -NaYF4 will be used as a host material, which is chemically and optically stable and its optical transparency lies in our range of spectra and its co-doped with lanthanides Yb3+ and Nd3+ provide us the highest quantum yield. In this study, the amount of dopants Nd3+ will be kept fixed whereas Yb3+ concentration will be changed from 0-0.98g. Thus in this research proposal we will use NaYF4 host matrix and Yb3+ and Nd3+ will be used as dopants to study the down conversion emission enhancement. The spectroscopic techniques will be used to analyze for prepared geometry.
