Abstract
Transformers are significant units of electrical power systems. Power transformers enable
the distribution and transmission of electricity over vast distances[1] by stepping up and
down the voltage level according to requirements. The core is one of the most essential
components of transformers as it deals with the magnetic flux linkage between the primary
and secondary windings. In the past, Cold Rolled Grain Oriented (CRGO) silicon steel has
been a significant material utilized for the core of transformers[2] because of its relatively
lower core losses and efficient magnetic properties. Recent developments in materials
science and the rising need for energy efficiency have paved the way for the investigation
and adoption of other materials, such as amorphous metal alloys.
Amorphous core transformers are gaining grip around the globe because of their
significantly lower no-load losses in contrast to CRGO transformers [3]. These properties
make them the best solution where the main focus is to increase the efficiency and
sustainability of energy. This report gives a deep insight into making a contrast between
Amorphous core and CRGO transformers, highlighting technical, operational,
environmental, and economic attributes. It also includes real data on cost analysis and
enlightens the long-term benefits of amorphous core technology.
