Abstract

This internship report is based on six week internship program that I completed in the News department of Discover Pakistan starting from 17-07-2023 to 31-08-2023. Apart from the theoretical studies, moving into the professional world was new to me but every hour spent at Discover Pakistan gives me a good amount of experience all the time. However, they were all useful for my career and will definitely help me in my future. This report includes how a News department at a media channel works, what are the activities performed by the department and what is the importance of it in the organization. Also it includes what were the tasks assigned to me during my internship and a description of knowledge and learning I grasped during the internship program. I worked in the News department and learnt almost all the aspects of a TV program such as News Writing, Reports, Reporting, Packages and news broadcasting and anchoring. The department is responsible for the recording of various programs that goes on air. It is considered the main department of the channel and continues working 24 hours a day. Initially during the first week, I was supposed to observe How to make a News in our own words and I myself provide lot of news tickers and reports for Pakistan Today. I noticed the responsibilities of employees during the news headlines and Voce overs of different programs from pre-production to post production. I interacted with many people during and after shoots to learn in detail about different aspects of a media program. In my views, I really like the smooth management of the channel and the motto of it which aims at projecting the positive image of the country and promoting tourism industry. In addition to it, my internship has been a great source of learning for me to understand the professional world. By conducting different programs of Current Issues at that time like Interview of Ahsan Ramzan Champion of Snooker, Different SWOTs of 14 August and programs analysis of the organization, I was able to identify what are the strengths and weaknesses of the channel and what could be recommended to bring in more opportunities and decline the threats to it. The experiences of script writing, news reading and anchoring that I gained from the internship provided me great skills and would be beneficial for me to become a great media professional. The amount of knowledge and the skills that I have obtained from Discover Pakistan along with the hands on training of the skills has provided me enough experience that I have been able to achieve the objectives I wanted to from it. Although my core interest is towards anchoring and being a news presenter but I have also gained knowledge of other fields like script writing and voiceovers and with this I am blessed to share that I have been presented at TV screen of Discover Pakistan TV as a Reporter by making a package of 14th August.
