| dc.description.abstract | The study was conducted to evaluate the prepared Keratin-Bioactive Glass biomaterial for its potential to act as s scaffold for alveolar grafting. Alveolar bone loss is a common phenomenon associated with periodontal degeneration in tooth extraction processes. The bacterial presence in the oral cavity can result in the failure of the process as the implant is prone to bacterial colonization. Different composite biomaterials have been designed to compensate for the alveolar bone loss. In this study, using the process of freeze gelation method, biocompatible keratin biopolymers and bioactive glass was prepared for its use in alveolar grafting process. Keratin required for the process was extracted from the sheep’s wool, which was blended with bioactive glass composite. The synthesized composite scaffold was then characterized for its structural analysis using FTIR technique. Following the characterization, the scaffold was tested for its mechanical potential and antibacterial activities. The results obtained showed a promising potential for the prepared scaffold to be used as implant alveolar grafting. | |
