SECRET OR SACRED?: Reclaiming the Khawaja Sira’s Liminal Identity in the Post Colonial Realm
(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) Imdad Tariq Hussain; Taimur Sarwar; LHR TP 9295
In contemporary architectural discourse, the intersection of social justice and design has become increasingly prominent, with architects embracing the responsibility to create spaces that are not only functional but also equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the diverse needs of communities. This thesis explores the transformative potential of architecture in addressing the marginalized experiences of the Khawaja Sira community in urban contexts. Drawing on principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), this thesis investigates the spatial and social dynamics that shape the lived experiences of Khawaja Sira individuals in Lahore. Through a critical analysis of existing architectural precedents, urban policies, and cultural norms, this thesis seeks to uncover the underlying structural inequalities that perpetuate marginalization and exclusion. The thesis adopts a multi-dimensional approach to inform the design of a community development center for the Khawaja Sira community of Lahore. The ultimate goal of this thesis is to propose a design intervention that not only addresses the spatial needs of the Khawaja Sira community but also serves as a catalyst for social change and cultural transformation ultimately becoming a monument to symbolize the Khawaja Sira struggle. By centering the experiences and voices of transgender individuals in the design process and creating a space that affirms their identities and fosters community solidarity, this thesis aims to contribute to a more equitable and inclusive urban landscape in Lahore 4 and beyond.

(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2017) Ansub Nadeem Sheikh; FA12-BAR-057; Mr. Meekal Chughtai; LHR TP 4822
Population growth, industrialization andcapitalism has led to consumerist human behavior and an unprecedented use of disposable objects. The rate of the object consumption is directly proportional to the alarming urbanized growth and in our economy, even though, the patterns ofproduction, consumption and waste management are global but the effects are localized. The amount of'waste' produced results in the excessive overcrowding ofalready present landfill sites, in the urban fabric of Lahore, primarily because of decrease in the pro environment behavior caused by the gap between production and consumption. These observations require an alternate system in which 'waste' is re-used, re-cycled through a process visible to the public in order to advocate awareness
