Item Building a better nest(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) Tehreem Zahra; FA18-BAR-033; Usman Sami; LHR TP 8612Item TIME & ARCHITECTURE(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) MUHAMMAD UMAIR YASEEN; FA18-BAR-054; Usman Sami; LHR TP 8624THIS ARCHITECTURAL THESIS AIMS TO INVESTIGATE THE INTRICATE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TIME AND ARCHITECTURE, FOCUSING ON THE CULTURAL IMPLICATIONS OF TIME IN THE DESIGN PROCESS. THE STUDY RECOGNIZES THAT ARCHITECTURE IS NOT SIMPLY A PHYSICAL MANIFESTATION OF FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS, BUT ALSO A REFLECTION OF SOCIETAL VALUES, CULTURAL HERITAGE, AND THE PASSAGE OF TIME. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO EXPLORE HOW ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CAN TRANSCEND TEMPORAL LIMITATIONS, RESULTING IN SPACES THAT POSSESS A TIMELESS QUALITY.Item DESIGNING FOR THE DESIGNERS(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) Momina Choudhary; FA18-BAR-019; Usman Sami; LHR TP 8606This thesis explores the concept of designing an innovative architecture department that caters to the needs of architecture students, providing them with spaces for both formal and informal learning. The focal point of this design proposal is the studio space, which plays a crucial role in the journey of architecture students. By creating an environment that fosters personalization, collaboration, and creativity, this project aims to enhance the educational experience and promote a holistic approach to architectural education. The design incorporates L-shaped studios, divided into formal and informal areas, with flexible walls opening into a stepped courtyard, creating a cohesive and dynamic learning environment. The design caters to the environment by using contextual design elements like corridors, courtyards, double facades, and transition spaces and using a bracelet-like approach to joining these elements together. 2 This report focuses into the rationale, design principles, and anticipated benefits of such a space for architecture students.Item FORGING VERTIGO: A VERTICAL CINEMATIC ENCLAVE(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) Hashim Azam; FA18-BAR-025; Usman Sami; LHR TP 8609The concept of creating a vertical film studio complex, named "Vertigo," which reimagines the traditional horizontal layout of film and television studios into a vertical structure. The objective of this project is to optimize space utilization in urban environment where land availability is limited while providing a state-of-the-art facility for film and television production and post-production activities which will act as a landmark for the city and the country itself. The proposed vertical cinematic enclave combines cutting-edge architectural design with innovative technological solutions, while also catering the existing cinema building through adaptive reuse. The vertical layout allows for multiple floors dedicated to different aspects of film production, such as sound stages, production offices, editing suites, post-production facilities, and screening rooms. Vertical transportation systems, advanced soundproofing techniques, and integrated production workflows ensure seamless collaboration and efficient use of resources. Vertigo aims to be a hub for creativity, collaboration, and technological advancement in the film industry. It will attract local and international filmmakers, artists, and production companies, fostering a vibrant community of talent and supporting the growth of the film industry in the region. The complex will also host film festivals, industry events, and educational programs to nurture emerging filmmakers and engage with the broader community. By embracing the existing site and the concept of a vertical cinematic enclave, Vertigo seeks to revolutionize the way films and other cinematic functions are produced, providing an innovative and sustainable solution for urban environments. The project aims to create a landmark that not only serves the needs of the film and television industry but also contributes to the cultural fabric of the city, becoming an iconic symbol of creativity and cinematic excellence.
