Item SECRET OR SACRED?: Reclaiming the Khawaja Sira’s Liminal Identity in the Post Colonial Realm(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) Imdad Tariq Hussain; Taimur Sarwar; LHR TP 9295In contemporary architectural discourse, the intersection of social justice and design has become increasingly prominent, with architects embracing the responsibility to create spaces that are not only functional but also equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the diverse needs of communities. This thesis explores the transformative potential of architecture in addressing the marginalized experiences of the Khawaja Sira community in urban contexts. Drawing on principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), this thesis investigates the spatial and social dynamics that shape the lived experiences of Khawaja Sira individuals in Lahore. Through a critical analysis of existing architectural precedents, urban policies, and cultural norms, this thesis seeks to uncover the underlying structural inequalities that perpetuate marginalization and exclusion. The thesis adopts a multi-dimensional approach to inform the design of a community development center for the Khawaja Sira community of Lahore. The ultimate goal of this thesis is to propose a design intervention that not only addresses the spatial needs of the Khawaja Sira community but also serves as a catalyst for social change and cultural transformation ultimately becoming a monument to symbolize the Khawaja Sira struggle. By centering the experiences and voices of transgender individuals in the design process and creating a space that affirms their identities and fosters community solidarity, this thesis aims to contribute to a more equitable and inclusive urban landscape in Lahore 4 and beyond.Item Metanoia is a Greek work meaning(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) Nabiha Faiz; FA18-BAR-049; Taimur Sarwar; LHR TP 8621Item Psychonautic space: A Meditating and recreational space(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) Muhammad Usama; FA18-BAR-030; Taimur Sarwar; LHR TP 8611Item Enabling innovation: Designing an IT center for digital age(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) HAMNA KHALID; FA18-BAR-044; Taimur Sarwar; LHR TP 8617This thesis aims to design an IT center that encourage local talent and drives innovation. With the ongoing advancements in the technology and evolving digital era. The goal is to create a space that promotes and supports technological progress and the skill development for startups. Exploring the IT concept & technologies that enable people to have immersive and interactive experiences. For that using the concept of mixed reality as a tool to create these experiences. There is literature review, and design explorations to understand existing theories, concepts, principles and how they can be implemented This report also presents the importance and necessity of an IT center, discussing its potential impact and the overall advancement of technology.Item SYMBIOTIC COAST(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) HASHAAM AHMAD; FA18-BAR-016; Taimur Sarwar; LHR TP 8605Life on our planet is dependent on water. Oceans provide 70 percent of our oxygen needs. Problems like increasing sea levels, which are brought on by climate change circumstances, harm species instincts and the world's natural habitats for eco systems. But, when we discuss taking the eco system into account, we just take into account humans, trees, and birds; we never discuss the eco system that is under the ocean. The largest natural ecosystem of marine life is comprised of coral reefs and mangroves, both of which we are continuously destroying. From Karachi to Gwadar, Pakistan's coast stretches for a considerable distance. Pakistan also has one of the largest marine ecosystems in the world. Yet, Pakistan is also among the top nations that are on high alert for coral bleaching due to sea level rise and global warming. The WWF has been successful in designating the coral reef locations as restricted areas during the past few years. Which are being examined for conversion into marine parks in order to address the issue of coral breaches and raise awareness of the value of the marine ecosystem. Yet, the important issue is how to proceed and how it will be done. 7 In order to give specialists a platform to better understand aquatic conditions, it is proposed to establish a marine research Centre with public involvement. Also, it serves as a location where members of the public can visit and learn about the significance of underwater life. Which would make people think on this issue and appreciate the value of aquatic life. And how to address the issue of this sea level rise, which puts our coastal way of life in peril. By doing this, it will close the gap between the two persons and help them understand the repercussions. The young generation will have the chance to learn about the significance of climate change thanks to this architectural intervention, which will also give WWF and the Pakistani Marine Conservation Society a pragmatic location.
