Item A Complex For Visually Impaired Multi Sensory Architecture(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2016) Zawaria Tahir; FA12-BAR-046; Mr Irfan Ghanni; LHR TP 4820A Complex for Visually Impaired: Multi-Sensory Architecture explores how built environments can be designed beyond visual aesthetics to engage all human senses. The project emphasizes tactile, auditory, olfactory, and spatial cues to create an inclusive and empowering environment for visually impaired users. By integrating textured surfaces, sound-guided navigation, natural ventilation, and fragrant landscaping, the design enhances orientation, safety, and independence. The complex redefines accessibility by shifting from barrier-free design to sensory-rich architecture, fostering dignity, comfort, and social interaction. It demonstrates how thoughtful spatial planning and sensory integration can transform architecture into an intuitive and inclusive experience for all users.Item Think Tank In Performative Public Space Event And(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2017) Umar Saleem; FA12-BAR-041; Mr Irfan Ghanni; LHR TP 4807Lahore has a rich history of performative, diverse and inclusive public spaces with multiple overlapping territories. Places like the walled city, despite being a gated community, are diverse and inclusive of intricate cultural, economic, political and social activities. These spaces are temporal and flexible where spatial structures are manipulated according to events and need of the human body. This makes spaces performative, allowing multiple possibilities for social interaction. In different scenarios in the same place, where distinct social groups create unique spaces on the basis of economy, identity and social values. Social and political dimensions of public performance in public space depend upon the governance system. Public institutions related to policy making in present scenario are an example of separation of territories and controlled space which eliminate diversity and presence of public in policy and decision making process. Having an Ideological narrative and its physical manifestation in space is essential for any model of governance to work and operate successfully. A socially inclusive ideology of governance considers its citizens to be performers; operating according to their own narratives and occupying temporal roles acted out in physical space. Understanding how a manifestation of public spaces occurs, as a place of cultural identities and expressions under a government authority, allows one an insight into the socio-cultural and political relationship between the government and its people. This public domain can be divided into formal and informal spaces on the basis of political control. Spatial manifestation mostly represents entities that do not fulfill the needs of the place’s living patterns which act symbolically rather than being performed.Item Environments Of Mulitplicity(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2019) Husain Ali; FA12-BAR-033; Mr Irfan Ghanni; LHR TP 4809Existing in diversity helps to understand the lifestyle of others and provide an opportunity to learn varied ways of communication which eventually helps in exploring aspects to reduce prejudice and improve knowledge. There are many examples showing that how different viewpoints can create positive or negative influence on people about other diverse group of peoples. An example of this could be of Badami Bagh incident2 where Christian locality was attacked and huge amount of loss was occurred. On the other hand, one of the biggest positive examples of celebrating diversity is when the huge influx of Sikh community occurs where we celebrate them and encourage them and host them. Incidents like this drives the importance of educating people about the bigger picture of these issues which is also part of their identities. Going ahead towards culture from religion, Pakistan is a place which comprises of several ethnic groups3 and this is revealed in the context of Lahore as well. Then there is also a vital role of diverse styles of Architecture in Lahore, which also adds to give the city & its people their unique & mixed identities. Architecture can provide an excellent environment to educate people about different religious, cultural & even architectural identities. The negative viewpoint towards other backgrounds usually lead to misunderstanding and conflicts. By getting to know and understanding the situation on a comprehensive scale, one gets not only to avoid conflicts but also happens to enhance his/her knowledge other aspects of identity. In a society, like ours, there is a serious need of intolerant outlook to be changed. One of the best ways to thrive tolerance & acceptance in society is by educating people of different backgrounds, about different backgrounds, be it religious, cultural or architecture. Architecture, using its own way of expressions, can try to tell about/translate these backgrounds and their experiences. Because of the importance of this issue, this thesis aims to stress the role of architecture in providing an environment, which is inclusive, which is welcoming, and which helps to understand and cherish identities.
