Item Mirpur An Empty City(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2019) Saliha Rashid; FA15-BDE-007; Miss Ayesha Saeed; LHR TP 5796Mirpur is often described as an “empty city” due to its unique socio-economic pattern shaped by large-scale migration, particularly to the United Kingdom. While the city features modern infrastructure, large houses, and improved amenities funded by remittances, many of these residences remain unoccupied for most of the year. This seasonal population fluctuation creates a contrast between physical development and actual urban activity. The phenomenon highlights the impact of overseas migration on local economies, urban planning, and social dynamics, where financial prosperity coexists with reduced community presence.
