Item An Ecofeministic analysis of Alice Walker‘s ―The Color Purple(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) Kanwal Majeed; FA18-REL-005; Dr. Muhammad Ayub; LHR TP 6001The present research study aims to explore an English novel The Color Purple by Alice Walker from an ecofeminist perspective. Ecofeminism provides a new and broader vision for understanding the situation of human and nature by placing women‘s sufferings and environmental deterioration in systems of oppression. Alice Walker has a profound ecofeminist sense, which is displayed in her preoccupation with the plight of the black people, their relationship with the white people in a patriarchal and dualized society, and the bonds between human beings and nonhuman nature. Although, Walker uses the word ―Womanism‖ to show her unremitting concern with the lives and rights of black women; her efforts in revealing the oppression of the black and her love for nonhuman nature leads her further into disclosing the link between the destruction of nonhuman nature and oppression of women. The popularity of The Color Purple lies to a large extent in the ecofeminist sense that Walker demonstrates in her writing. An ecofeminist reading of this novel means a better understanding of the relationship between men and women as well as people of different races and backgrounds, and the relationship between humans and nonhuman nature. The present study explores the theme of woman domination and subjugation by the males of that society and the premise is being evaluated through textual examples from the novel derived through close reading technique.Item The Study of Deconstructing Social Disparities in Moni Mohsin‘s The Diary of a Social Butterfly(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) Aqsa Riaz; FA18-REL-003; Dr. Muhammad Ayub; LHR TP 5999The present research study has been carried on the novel, The Diary of a Social Butterfly by Moni Mohsin. The research intends to look at the way the narrator has depicted social disparities through different socio and political events happening in the novel. The writer has tried to deliver the account of the problematic state of Pakistan. The researcher used narrative analysis to analyze and interpret the text. However, narrative analysis is used to analyze any text that is based on a story or an event. It is also helpful to perceive what the narrator had in his mind while writing the story. The theoretical framework of Marxism has been used to construct and carry out the research. The Marxism approach criticizes the socio- political problems going on in society hence it is used to show how social and political events can lead to social crises or disparities. The text in the novel gave an impression that the novel only talks about the lifestyle of Butterfly, who is a spoiled brat and a shopaholic. On the other hand, the novel not only discusses Butterfly‟s standard of living only but it also portrays the protagonist's life in problematic scenarios such as war, terrorism and earthquake, etc. Also, the research identifies how these issues of social instability create constant conflict between privileged and deprived.
