Item MODERATING ROLE OF SOCIAL SUPPORT BETWEEN PERSONALITY TRAITS AND EMOTIONAL REGULATION IN UNIVERSITY HOSTEL STUDENTS(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Nadia Ashraf; FA19-BPY-050; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8397This study was designed to explore the moderating role of social support between personality traits and emotional regulation. In this correlational study, participants were hostel students aging between 18-24 (M=20.84, SD= 1.45). Convenient sampling strategy was used to select participants and data was collected from the hostels of two govt. universities Lahore, Pakistan. Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, The Personality Inventory for DSM-5, Brief Form and Emotional Regulation Questionnaire were used to assess moderating role of social support between personality traits and emotional regulation. Results indicated the significant moderating role of social support between personality traits and emotional regulation. Only two subscales of personality traits (antagonism and disinhibition) were correlated with the subscales of emotional regulation (cognitive reappraisal and emotional suppression). The findings of the study demonstrated that social support has a significant positive relationship between personality traits and emotional regulationItem Effect of Coping Methods on Virtues of Positive Psychology in Language Learning Among University Students(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Wardah Fatima; FA19-BPY-031; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8383The current study examined the effect of coping on virtues of positive psychology in language learning among university students, memory deficits, this research also analyze the relationship or association between coping and virtues of positive psychology in language learning and gender differences of using coping methods on virtues of positive psychology in language learning. The questionnaire was completed by 500 participants (University students, Male students: 250, Female students: 250). Inventory of Positive Psychology in Language Learning (IPPLL) and Coping Scale both tools were used. The correlational analysis demonstrated that Coping is positively associated with inventory of positive psychology in language learning, furthermore the use of t-test in analysis shows that female students are more likely to use coping methods on virtues of positive psychology in language learning then male students of university. This study is a unique contribution to students and teachers in academic settings as it will help to understand the how the use of coping methods may help students while confronting the positive psychology in language learning among students who face difficulties to learn English language whenever they switch from college to university. This will also help the researchers find the ways to improve language learning by using positive psychology and coping methods in academic settings.Item Gender Difference and Academic Background in Foreign Language Learning Enjoyment Among University Students(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) FA19-BPY-011; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8370The present study aimed at assessing the gender and school background difference in foreign language learning enjoyment among university students. All the participants were students of semester 1 to 4 studying second language courses. The total number of participants in this research were 400. Men to women proportionate of participants was (50:50) between age of 18- 29 (M:19.78, SD:1.26). To gather data from the participants, convenience sampling strategy was employed, and all the data was collected face-to-face in classrooms Participants were assessed through one questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of The Foreign Language Enjoyment Scale (FLES) which is used to measure enjoyment of language learning. Findings from independent sample t test showed that there is no association of gender difference in foreign language learning enjoyment among university students. While there found association between different school backgrounds. The results of research are discussed in the light of Pakistani cultural context.Item EMOTIONAL NEEDS, SOCIAL NETWORKING ADDICTION AND PORNOGRAPHY CRAVING IN EMERGING ADULTS(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Shumaila Nawaz; FA19-BPY-004; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8367This study was planned to explore the link between emotional needs and pornography craving the and mediating role of social networking addiction. In this correlational study, participants were emerging adults aging between 17-21 years (M= 18.9, SD = 1.12). A convenient sampling technique was utilized to select participants and data was assembled from government and private colleges of Lahore, Pakistan. Standardized instruments of Emotional Needs Audit, Pornography Craving Questionnaire, and Social Networking Addiction scale were used to assess emotional needs, pornography craving, and social networking addiction respectively. Results indicated the significant mediating role of social networking addiction in the link between emotional needs and pornography craving. The findings reveal that emotional needs have a significant but negative relationship with pornography cravings. The study results demonstrated that emotional needs have a significant but negative relationship with pornography craving, and only three sub-scales of social networking addiction (i.e., mood modification, conflict, and relapse) were correlating with pornography craving. In terms of the relationship between social networking addiction and pornography craving, the research work found a positive correlation between the two. The findings of the study suggest that emotional needs may be a protective factor against problematic pornography use and that only specific sub-scales of social networking addiction are related to pornography craving.Item JOB INSECURITY, ATTENTION CONTROL, AND MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS IN EMPLOYEES(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Jameela Yousaf; FA19-BPY-060; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8406This study was designed to explore the link between job insecurity, attention control, and mental health pro25-40 years (M: 1.85, SD: 0.359). Convenient sampling was used to select participants and data was collected from government and private companies and institutions in Lahore, Pakistan. Standardized instruments of Job Insecurity, Attention Control, and Mental Health problems (DASS21) scale were used to assess job insecurity, attention control, and mental health problems respectively. Results indicated a significant moderating role of attention control problems in linking job insecurity and mental health problems. The findings reveal that job insecurity has a positive and significant relationship with mental health problems. The findings of the study demonstrated that job insecurity has a significant but positive relationship with attention control problems, and only sub-scales of attention control problems (i.e. Attention shifting and attention focusing) were correlated with job insecurity. Overall results of the study indicate that attention control problems are a significant mediator of the association between mental health problems and job insecurity, and that mental health problems and attention control problems are strongly correlated with job insecuritItem RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GRATITUDE, PROSOCIAL BEHAVIOR AND LIFE ASSESSMENT IN YOUNG ADULTS(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Khadija Zafar; FA19-BPY-005; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8368This study was designed to explore the relationship between Life Assessment and Gratitude and the mediating role of prosocial behavior. In this correlational study, participants were young adults ranging between 18-25 years (M= 21.24, SD= 1.66). Participants were selected through convenient sampling from three universities in Lahore, Pakistan. Standardized assessment tools of the Prosociality Scale (PBS), The Gratitude Questionnaire (GQ-6) Contentment with Life Assessment Scale (CLAS) were used to assess prosocial behavior, gratitude, and life assessment respectively. Results indicated a significant positive but weak correlation between prosocial behavior and gratitude and also between prosocial behavior and life assessment/satisfaction. The overall findings of the present study concluded that prosociality is positively and significantly associated with gratitude and life assessment though weak. The previous studies have also supported this finding as they have also explored the relationship between prosocial behavior, gratitude, and life assessment and come up with results revealing that prosocial behavior is not only significantly positively correlated with gratitude but also with life assessmenItem RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RELIGIOSITY, GRATITUDE AND LIFEASSESSMENT IN YOUNG ADULTS(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Hajra Farooq; FA19-BPY-066; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8409The present study focuses on the association between religiosity, gratitude and life assessment in young adults of Pakistan. Religiosity has been shown to have a link with gratitude and life satisfaction in that it has a positive influence on both. However, the specific link between these variables and the extent to which these variables are associated have been the topic of interest in research. A sample of 500 young adults, from three different universities, were selected through convenient sampling technique, equally distributed across male and female with ages between 18 to 25(M= 21.24, SD = 1.66). Three Scales have been used in this study Contentment of Life assessment scale (CLAS), the gratitude questionnaire (GQ-6) and the Dimensions of Religiosity scale (DRS). Correlation analysis demonstrated that there exists a relationship between religiosity, gratitude and life assessment. However, this association is a weak one.Item PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING ANXIETY IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY LEVEL TEACHERS(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Nisar Ahmad; FA19-BPY-054; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8401This study was designed to explore the moderating role of professional growth and English language teaching anxiety in primary and secondary level teachers, participants were school teachers from government and private level ages between 20-60 (M=16.23, SD= 5.55). A Simple random sampling strategy was used to select participants and data was collected from the different schools of Lahore, Pakistan. Foreign language teaching anxiety (scale) and professional growth scale were used to assess moderating role of FLTA and professional growth. Results indicated the significant moderating role of professional growth between teaching inexperience. The findings reveal that emotional needs have a significant but negative relationship with pornography cravings. The findings of the study indicate that the interaction between teaching inexperience and education does not have a significant effect on professional growth. Only one subscale of FLTA was correlated with the scales of professional growth.Item Korean Dramas, Body Image, Antisocial and Paranoid Behavior of Adolescence Females(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Javeria Saeed; FA19-BPY-013; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8372The present study focused on Effect of Korean Dramas on Female’s Body Image, Antisocial and Paranoid Behavior. The sample for this study was 300 females collected from the colleges in Lahore. Self-report measures including the demographic questionnaire, The Body Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults and antisocial and paranoid behavior questionnaire taken from the scale personal belief questionnaire were used. Self-devised questionnaire was used to access the level of Korean drama exposure. Analysis demonstrated the frequencies of females who agreed or disagreed with the scale’s statement. The analysis reviled that most of that exposure to Korean dramas is associated with lower body esteem and increased antisocial and paranoid behavior among female viewers. Furthermore, the results suggested that antisocial behavior mediates the relationship between exposure to Korean dramas and body esteemItem Association between Perfectionism, Memory Deficits, and Generalized Anxiety in Computer Programmers(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2023) Muhammad Awais; FA19-BPY-053; Dr. Farzana Ashraf; LHR TP 8400The current research study focuses on and aims to check the association or link between perfectionism, memory deficits, and generalized anxiety in computer programmers of Pakistan. The findings and results of the study show that there is a significant association or link between generalized anxiety and memory deficits and perfectionism acts as the significant moderator of generalized anxiety and memory deficits. Since the association between these variable of the study is the main and basic interest of the study and research, 457 computer programmers from different institutes were taken as the sample of the study. They all were young adults and working programmers having at least one or two-year of experiences in the field. The data was gathered through a convenient and slowball sampling technique. Generalized anxiety has a significant and negative association or link with memory deficits and perfectionism act as the moderator in generalized anxiety and memory deficits. Three assessment scales were used to check perfectionism, memory deficits, and generalized anxiety in computer programmers. The scales are the Big Three Perfectionism Scale-Short form, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Memory Deficits scale. This research study highlights the inverse relationship between perfectionism and generalized anxiety among Pakistani computer programmers, suggesting that perfectionism may serve as a protective factor against stress in this demographic.
