Item Synthesis, Characterization and Antibacterial Study of Silver Doped Manganese Ferrite Nanocomposites(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) BABAR HUSSAIN; CIIT/FA18-RPH-039/LHR; Dr. Muhammad Hammad Aziz; LHR TP 6094Magnetic materials such as ferrites are substances that come crossways in powder form and ceramic based material with ferromagnetic properties attained via iron oxides (IO), their foremost components are Fe2O3 and Fe3O4 and further can be doped by transition metals and metal oxide nanomaterials . The ferrites and metallic doped ferrites are mentioned as magnetic materials and have various applications such as photocatalysis, drug carrier in cancer treatment, hydrogen production and electronic expedients. Among the various ferrites, manganese ferrite (MnFe2O4) has superior and distinct magnetic, physical and chemical properties leading to numerous biomedical applications. The statistics showed that antibacterial toxicity mostly is influenced by particle size and concentration. The magnetic materials were shown enough potential in antimicrobial activity against various microorganisms and based on these properties that materials can further be used in numerous biomedical applications. Therefore, in present research work, efforts will be carried out by making the nanocomposite of silver doped manganese ferrite NPs to enhancement in the bactericidal action. Silver based nanomaterial and its composites for example Ag- MnFe2O4 in a biological point of view require an detailed origination with outstanding antibacterial properties with decline toxicity quality and morphological evaluations of these materials is as yet appealing test for future interest. Here, in this experimental work, we have synthesized and characterized Ag-MnFe2O4 by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Uv-Vis spectroscopy, Field emission scanning electron microscopy FESEM, for morphological and essential study. Toxicity of Ag-MnFe2O4 nanocomposite was surveyed by means of methyl-thiazole-tetrazolium (MTT) measure, and morphological changes realize Ag-MnFe2O4 in Escherichia coli (E.coli) investigated by confocal checking electron microscopy with magnification of ×40. The toxicity of Ag-MnFe2O4 nanoparticle was assessed by estimating the degree of misfortune in cell viability (%) in dose dependent which caused the cell destruction in apoptotic/necrotic way. The reason of bacterial death due oxidative pressure trigger by reactive oxygen species (ROS) expressed potential role of Ag-MnFe2O4 for enhancement of antimicrobial activity of E coli as an effective antibacterial specialist.Item Silver Doped ZnO Nanoparticles for Antimicrobial Activity and Wound Healing Application(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) YASIR IQBAL; CIIT/FA18-RPH-031/LHR; Dr. Muhammad Hammad Aziz; LHR TP 6090Metallic nanoparticles are well known for their biomedical applications including antimicrobial activity and wound dressing materials due to large surface to volume ratio and other chemical properties. In this work, silver doped zinc oxide (Ag-ZnO) nanoparticles containing chitosan-based porous membranes were prepared by the freeze- gelation method. Hydrogel membranes were prepared using the blending of natural polymers and loading metallic nanoparticles as an antibacterial agent. The different membranes were prepared using the different concentrations of metallic nanoparticles by the freeze-gelation process, during this process Triethyl Orthoformate (TEOF) used as a cross-linker agent. This different concentration of membranes were tested for bactericidal potential using the disk diffusion method. Further, swelling studies of these membranes were performed in PBS solutions. The presence of Ag-ZnO NPs were confirmed by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis confirmed the presence of the chitosan functional group. All these experiments confirmed that these membranes are safe to use for wound dressing material and other biomedical applications.Item Synthesis, Characterization and Antibacterial Properties of Keratin-Bioactive Glass Alveolar Scaffolds(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) MUHAMMAD FARRUKH SARFRAZ; CIIT/FA18-RPH-026/LHR; Dr. Muhammad Hammad Aziz; LHR TP 6087The study was conducted to evaluate the prepared Keratin-Bioactive Glass biomaterial for its potential to act as s scaffold for alveolar grafting. Alveolar bone loss is a common phenomenon associated with periodontal degeneration in tooth extraction processes. The bacterial presence in the oral cavity can result in the failure of the process as the implant is prone to bacterial colonization. Different composite biomaterials have been designed to compensate for the alveolar bone loss. In this study, using the process of freeze gelation method, biocompatible keratin biopolymers and bioactive glass was prepared for its use in alveolar grafting process. Keratin required for the process was extracted from the sheep’s wool, which was blended with bioactive glass composite. The synthesized composite scaffold was then characterized for its structural analysis using FTIR technique. Following the characterization, the scaffold was tested for its mechanical potential and antibacterial activities. The results obtained showed a promising potential for the prepared scaffold to be used as implant alveolar grafting.
