Glucose (C6H12O6), (H2O2) is one of the main biomolecules of our body. The alteration in the normal concentration gives rise to multiple disorders and diseases. The electrochemical measurements of glucose and hydrogen peroxide with the bare electrode is not possible due to various problem like electrochemical fouling, interference species have same oxidation potential and lower concentration of C6H12O6 and H2O2 in biological samples. The modification of the working electrode is essential for fast, accurate, selective, and sensitive detection of C6H12O6 and H2O2. Doped metal oxide/graphene oxide nanocomposites have attracted great attention due to the synergistic effect. The nanocomposites contain several properties such as catalytic activity, high surface area, electrochemical activity, and oxygen transferability which are attractive for sensor applications. In this work, a new hybrid material Gadolinium oxide/cobalt oxide/rGO (Gd2O3/Co3O4/rGO) nanocomposite was prepared by hydrothermal method. The nanocomposite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM, EDX, FTIR, Raman, XRD) for surface morphology, crystallinity, and elemental compositions study, and electrochemical techniques such as Cyclic Voltammetry, Impedance electrochemical and spectroscopy (EIS), Real Sample, Interference Study and Amperometry was used for senor evaluation. The synthesized material was used for the fabrication of biosensors. The Gd2O3/Co3O4/rGO nanocomposite was used for the surface modification of the glassy carbon electrode and tested as an electrochemical sensor for the detection of glucose and hydrogen peroxide. The proposed sensor gave good response for the detection of glucose and hydrogen peroxide. The sensor was also evaluated for the detection of glucose and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of co-existing species such as ascorbic acid, dopamine, folic acid, ethanol, and uric acid and did not show any interference in the results.

Carbon Nanotubes and their Composites for Electrochemical Detection of Glucose
(Library Information Services COMSATS University Islamabad Lahore Campus, 2020-02-19) Muhammad Umar Shakeel; FA18-R06-010; Dr. Abdur Rahim; LHR TP 6492
Glucose plays a significant role in human body for energy generation and brain functioning. Human blood glucose level is a universal mark of an individual’s health particularly for the ones threatened with diabetes. Amid the rising number of affectees, various materials are being tested for incorporation in glucose sensing. An efficient and cost effective simple one step hydrothermal procedure for synthesis of cobalt selenide (CoSe) decorated carbon nanotubes using powdered selenium and hydrazine is reported with a feasible application of this advanced composite material as a novel binder free electrocatalytic material for glucose sensing and detection. A glassy carbon electrode deposited with the CoSe@CNTs shows eloquent excellence in application of glucose sensing exhibiting a lower limit of detection of 1.25 mM and an exceptionally high maximum current density of 6.8 ± 0.03 mA cm-2 in basic medium. Bulk electrochemical measurements performed with CoSe@CNTs loaded glassy carbon electrode also confirmed the oxidation of glucose in alkaline media

Non-Enzymatic Electrochemical Sensing of Dopamine based on Transition Metal Oxides/CNTs
(Library Information Services COMSATS University Islamabad Lahore Campus, 2020-02-17) Shamim Ramzan; FA18-R06-009; Dr. Abdur Rahim; LHR TP 5963
Sensing with the aid of metal oxides and CNTs is the most vibrant field of electrochemical science, which endows an ambit for various innovative and novel functions with a variety of applications. Enzymatic sensors are costly, lack of stability, have difficult immobilization techniques as well as electrodes used for electrochemical analysis of neurotransmitter concentrations are also unable to monitor the potential of these species. Besides, sensors with the most robust and reliable electrodes generally tend to deteriorate over months of use. Therefore, a study has been designed to synthesize CNTs based metal oxides nanoparticles by green synthesis method using the lignin as a modifier and reducing agent. The synthesize materials have been characterized by different techniques, i.e. SEM, XRD, and FTIR for surface morphology, determination of nanostructure, and functionalization of surface. The synthesized materials such as C2O3@CNTs/lignin, and CuO@CNTs/lignin have been used for the surface modification of glassy carbon electrode (GCE). These composites are supposed to be used as a promising material for dopamine sensing by giving excellent electrochemical properties.
