Item HOME, HURT, AND HEALING: LETTING GO OF EMOTIONAL CHILDHOOD BAGGAGE(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2025) Ayesha Imran; FA21-BDE-015; LHR TP 9651; Zain Ul AbideenA home is supposed to be a place of love and safety but many times it becomes a source of long term emotional pain that is passed down through generations. According to John Bowlby’s attachment theory, early childhood experiences define their emotional development, saying first attachments with their caregivers mold them for life (Bowlby J. , 1978) and Ronald Rohner's Parental Acceptance-Rejection Theory was developed to explain how parental behavior influences a child's emotional and psychological development. So such experiences often result in emotional neglect, feelings of abandonment, and struggles with self-worth in adulthood. The core idea of this thesis is aimed at healing childhood wounds and moving on from the pain of the past. This thesis design shows how a person can let go of the hurt when it is time, as an act of self-healing and not for anyone else, including their parents. Healing happens by accepting the past, making sense of the past, and deciding to move forward. By gaining perspective from their parents' experiences, it becomes easier for a person to forgive. Ultimately, the person releases themselves from the baggage of intergenerational trauma and re-births their negative core beliefs. This thesis serves as a reminder that healing is an internal job. Moving forward is hard but important.Item IN LOVING MEMORY: AN EXPLORATION OF LOSS AND GRIEF THROUGH THE FABRIC OF SOUTH ASIAN IDENTITY(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2025) Mahnoor Tariq; FA21-BDE-003; LHR TP 9657; Zain Ul AbideenThe concept of memory is very fragile, yet it is one of the most powerful connections a person can have. Loss, in whatever form it may be, leaves us with a void that is hard to fill but through those memories we find a way to keep our loved ones close. In times of unforsaken loss, many often turn to stories and keepsakes—mementos that hold a part of the people we loved, allowing us to remember, honor, and continue our connection to them. Among these, personal belongings and heirlooms hold a unique significance as carries of generational history, cultural traditions and emotional attachment. While the importance of storytelling and the role of personal objects in the bereavement process are well acknowledged, there exists a need to explore the complex nature of grief and its role in creating a lasting impact of love, identity and human connection. This thesis aims to explore the intersection of grief, memory, remembrance and material culture in the grieving process and the impact of loss on an individual; especially within the South Asian context, where personal artifacts and belongings are deeply tied to generational and collective histories. Using a combination of traditional crafting methods, interactivity, experiential design, and personal storytelling, it aims to highlight the importance of memory in the evolving process of dealing with loss and how those memories are expressed, preserved and transformed into meaningful representations.Item Internship Report on US & DYNOMO MILLS(Library Information Services, CUI Lahore, 2019) Zain Ul Abideen; FA20-BBA-079; Prof. Umer FarooqThis report includes information about the history of the US & DYNAMO Company. It explores how platforms like TikTok and Instagram have reshaped girlhood through aesthetics such as the "girlissance" 1 and "I'm Just a Girl" 2 , dangling between empowerment and commodification. Drawing on theories of gender performativity, surveillance, and post-feminism, the research investigates how girlhood is both reclaimed and infantilized, and how social media trends foster self-expression while reinforcing patriarchal ideals. The study critiques the hyper-commodification of femininity, where individuality is curated for consumption, and highlights the tension between gender transgression and normative constraints. Case studies on viral trends and literary depictions explore these themes, emphasizing intersectionality. This thesis aims to draw a line between empowerment and exploitation, for young impressionable minds to be conscious of their use of the internet. While these trends may appear fascinating, our individual identities are getting lost somewhere. This thesis argues for a critical understanding of the internet’s dual role in empowering and exploiting femininity, advocating for digital spaces that prioritize authenticity and inclusivityItem PUNISHMENT OVER INTENT IN PAKISTANI LAW(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2025) Kainat Azeem; FA21-BDE-002; LHR TP 9655; Zain Ul AbideenThis thesis investigates how poverty, inequality, and desperation frequently lead individuals to commit crimes in Pakistan. Although modern laws often answer back with strict sentence, traditional Islamic law documented intent, necessity, and setting— offering compassion for crimes compelled by survival. Historical instances, such as Caliph Umar Ibn Khattab suspension of hudud during famine, redirects this empathetic methodology. The study analyses Pakistan’s unyielding legal responses and calls for reforms grounded in Islamic principles of justice and mercy. As Kanwel, Asghar, and Khan (2024), “A criminal justice system that focuses solely on punishment without addressing the underlying causes of crime fails not only the offender but also society at large” To complement the study, this project takes the account of a mixed-media visual book uniting photography and illustration. It narrates stories of people who committed crimes out of desperation, pointing to civilize them and induce understanding in audiences. The design highlights emotional storytelling and challenges societal decision, linking academic research with art and advocacy. This thesis ultimately argues for a justice system that balances accountability with compassion and reflects the ethical spirit of Islamic jurisprudenceItem UNSPOKEN FACET OF FATHERHOOD(2025) RIDA HAMID; FA21-BDE-004; LHR TP 9664; Zain Ul AbideenFatherhood has long been defined by roles based on financial provision and protection, often affecting the emotional guidance and nonverbal sacrifices of fathers In Pakistani society where values such as izzat (respect) and traditional masculinity — . emphasizing emotional self-control and financial responsibility—establish expectations of fatherhood Multiple roles are used, but these are silent sacrifices—family needs are prioritized over individual preferences—are often unacceptable to children and society.
