(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus., 2015-11-20) Muhammad Umair; SP11-BCS-088
Augmented reality brings life to imagination and now it is used in many mobile applications. Mobile technology offers totally new ways to access information, share contents and interact with the environment. A mobile application named as “University Guider” has been developed for this project. University guider is an augmented reality android based application. The develop guider connects available digital contents with the real world. Guider basically scans and prints materials to view rich digital experiences then as extra digital content appears, allowing the user to interact with the world in a whole new way. User can upload information, download, and view information (in form of 3D view, web links, and videos). University guider also tells nearest places around user current position, the direction and shortest path of the desired place. This is a location based application that guides the user to visit various parts of the university and also to any other point of interest nearby e.g. banks, ATM, restaurants, hospitals, bus terminal and other recreational spots. The project has been designed using android toolkit, vuforia, openGL, and web for instant sharing of information live online using a simple android plane. The application has been successfully developed, tested and validated by random users.
