(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2020) Roha Haseeb; FA15-BDE-005; Zain-Ul-Abidin; LHR TP 5795
Colorism in Pakistan: Discrimination Based on Skin Tone” examines the social hierarchy and biases associated with skin color within Pakistani society. The study explores how lighter skin is often privileged in areas such as media representation, marriage prospects, employment opportunities, and social status, while darker skin tones face marginalization and negative stereotypes. Rooted in historical, colonial, and cultural influences, colorism continues to shape perceptions of beauty and worth. This research highlights the psychological, social, and economic impacts of such discrimination and emphasizes the need for awareness, media responsibility, and inclusive narratives to challenge and dismantle color-based prejudice.
