Efficacy of Moral Behavioral Intervention in Emotional Behavioral Problems in Mid- Adolescence
(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2025-01) Kinza Saher Basra; FA23-RCP-007; Dr. Maryam Amjad; LHR TP 9716
Mid-adolescence, characterized by important neurocognitive growth and emotional intensity, is a peak time for psychological intervention for its increased vulnerability to emotional and behavioral issues (EBPs). This research investigated the impact of a formal Moral Behavioral Intervention in developing moral reasoning, emotional regulation, and prosocial behavior among 14 to 15 year-old adolescents. Formulated based on Erikson's theory of psychosocial development and Kohlberg's moral development stages, the intervention is aimed at addressing developmental issues simultaneously with impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, and risk-taking behaviors. A pre and Post- experimental design is employed, with 20 participants (50% boys and 50% girls) from private and government schools. Moral Identity Questionnaire (MIQ) and Emotional Behavioral Problem Scale (EBPS) were utilized to measure outcomes. The intervention included psychoeducation, cognitive-behavioral methods, emotion regulation skills, and behavioral skill training facilitated by cognitive-behavioral methods, emotion regulation skills, and behavioral skill training facilitated by reflective and group-based activities. In statistical analysis, descriptive analysis of socio- demographic of the study participant and Paired sample t-test analysis between pre- and post-assessment (N=20) was implemented. Findings showed a significant boost in moral identity scores and a decrease in emotional and behavioral symptoms after the intervention. These results indicated that developing morals through systematic intervention is able to enhance emotional control, diminish impulsivity, and enhance prosocial behavior among mid-adolescents.
