Fabrication and Characterization of Zn/Sn di-Sulfide Based Composites as Anodic Electrode for Next Generation Zinc-Ion Batteries
(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2022) Zahid Ullah; SP20-RPH-003; Dr. Muhammad Aamir Razzaq; LHR TP 7679
The present traditional energy sources are insufficient to maintain our modern way of living. To overcome the present energy demand, there is a need of efficient and flexible energy storage system to replace the current the nonrenewable energy sources. between various energy storage gadget Zinc ion batteries have drawn attention to several researchers due to their characteristics such, much higher potential i.e. -0.761 V as compared to standard hydrogen electrode than several other batteries like Na, K, Al and Li and Zinc can directly be used as anode material as it is stable in aqueous electrolyte. Different materials are used as electrode materials in Zn-ion batteries but Metal sulfide based materials are under fascination of researchers due to ease in synthesis, incredible electrochemical performance and longer cyclic life. Among metal sulfide Zn and Sn composites are utilized as an electrode in electrochemical Supercapacitor, lithium ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, bio sensors, and Photo catalysis applications. Literature survey revealed numerous fabrication techniques for fabrication of ZnSnS2 e.g. co-precipitation, hydrothermal method and microwave method. Microwave method is less expensive, easy to do and less time consuming. Presented synopsis is an attempt to fabricate the Zinc and Tin based composites to utilize the larger potential window for better energy storage characteristics. Furthermore, fabricated composites will be employed as anodic electrodes for Zinc-ion batteries. The morphological and structural properties of the sample was investigated by different characterization techniques such Raman spectroscopy Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, x ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Transmission electron microscopy, while the electrochemical properties were studied by galvanostatic charge/discharge, Cyclic voltammetry, and Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The crystalline structure of the nanocomposites was confirmed by the specified region electron diffraction pattern, which was carried out by high transmission electron microscope (TEM).

Synthesis and Characterization of Molybdenum Disulfide and Lignocellulose Fibre-based Composites for Working Electrode in Dye- Sensitized Solar Cell
(Library Information Services, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 2021) Muhammad Salman Naeem; SP20-RPH-011; Dr. Muhammad Aamir Razzaq; LHR TP 7684
The global energy crisis is rapidly developing as a critical issue that must be resolved. The rising need for energy consumption, along with the ease of utility, directs research toward the manufacture of highly functional energy systems. To fulfil current energy demands, scientists, and modern industries all over the world are trying to observe different low-cost raw materials and are working to develop highly effective, lightweight, portable, and environmentally friendly energy conversion systems such as solar cells. As a result, paper electrodes are playing an essential role in modern flexible, lightweight, and portable components of such devices. This research work reports the synthesis of materials and fabrication of eco-friendly, flexible, lightweight paper electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells. Natural fibres (Musa fibres) extracted from self-growing plants are incorporated to give mechanical stability and function as non-toxic natural binders for electrode development. Nanostructured metal sulfide e.g., Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is being used in this research work because it has low cost, can provide inherent material stability, and has the ability to offer a large surface area to enhance the kinetics required for fast charging. The current work is an approach to fabricate MoS2/LC composite materials for the development of high-power density and improved cyclical stable electrodes for DSSC applications. MoS2 was synthesised using the microwave-assisted method. Musa fibres were incorporated with MoS2 and used as a natural binder for the fabrication of paper electrodes. Galvanostatic charge-discharge testing was used to analyse and compare the prepared electrodes for energy conversion applications using a three-electrode system. Other characterizations e.g., XRD, FTIR, and Raman confirmed the successful formation of MoS2 and MoS2/LC composite. The electrode demonstrated high electrochemical response, specific capacitance, and cyclic stability. As a result, the fabricated electrodes are suitable for use in energy conversion applications.
