On March 11th, 2020, the world health organization declared the disease COVID 19 as a pandemic which affected the massive number of people in just a short period of time, it also devastates countries badly to maintain the society of their community, unable to provide health care facilities or to keep their economy functional like before, which cause the disruption of the World economy, decline of stock markets, scarcity of daily supplies, political instability, and governments tends to lose hundreds of billions of the revenues due to this calamity. Panic buying may be described as” a remedial measure to lessen fear and anxiety of losing control over the surrounding environment and to secure essentials for the immediate future” and most probably by in response to other people’s panic buying. During lockdowns and phase of isolation, people has easy access to social and electronic media which facilitated them to share and gain information about the spreading disease and this overloaded information regarding COVID 19 has revealed a lot of challenges which was not come upon before that. The media shows the excessive information on people’s peculiar behavior of buying food items and grocery shopping with the pictures of empty shelves in stores, creates a negative framing in mind of others and fueling the panic buying in market due to fear of scarcity and uncertainty during this pandemic situation. Government of Pakistan also took measures to control the misinformation spread by social and electronic media to prevent misinformation spread and mitigate the advent of rumors and misinformation as this misinformation and unverifiable content become the source of spreading panic and anxiety among the public. Despite of this, Government authorities could not control the prices of items and public does not rely on govt. mediations as in this situation lack of confidence in authorities and feeling of uncertainty is developing simultaneously which disrupts the shopping behaviors of consumers. This study’s objective is to scrutinize the aspects leading to panic buying behavior as an impact of COVID19 in Pakistan. From this study the answers of our research questions can easily met and it could be clear that Exposure to widespread online information sources creates feeling of uncertainty and negative framing in minds of public which influence them for panic buying of personal hygiene and food products for the family or siblings during COVID 19.Social Media can become a reliable source for creating awareness among people during pandemic if proper controllable measures are taken by Government during the calamities like COVID 19,and the strategies and measures can be published on social media to gain the trust of public and to less the uncertainty from the environment and sense of helplessness among the public
