Abstract:
The word escape is a noun which is defined as:
"Literal flight and steps taken to change or mask an unsatisfactory condition/
There is a close link between recreation and the feeling of finding an escape. Human
beings often resort to recreation to escape their stressful and mundane reality. This
thesis caters to people who resort to the element of play as a form of escape.
Architecture as a recreational escape underscores the importance of re-establishing
the lost connection between people and their built environment, devoid of any form
of productivity or monetary gain. It delves within the mundane static built
environment and reimagines it as an immersive space which offers a recreational
escape for an individual solely for their entertainment and relaxation.
Inspired by the cinematic narrative of the movie "The Maze Runner" this thesis aims
to create a gameplay upon which the built environment of the building will be
created. The architectural space would be designed to be explored and not used. The
challenges would be presented to the user through exploration of pathways hindered
by various obstacles. Each level of exploration being anchored in the various phases
of life to remind the users ofthe element of "play", which is always forgotten in this
transient life.
For the design strategy various body movements are to be studied and abstracted.
Their abstraction isimplemented to create the ludic space.
