Abstract:
In our rapidly chanjging world of consumption and automation, craftsmanship is
comforting in its humanity. The Slowness ofArtisanal Creation has the ability to
soothe the frantic world oftoday. It's a reflection of both our personal identities and
the collective heritage of our^ciety, where ancestral techniques from the past
converge
& evolve with present-day creativity. It's also a way ofsharing our stories
and musing on the future. What could be more essential
—and more human
- than
that?
Pakistan is one of the richest countries in terms'of cfaft yet in today's age of
consumerism there's
a palpable shift away from the creation and promotion of
handcrafted goods which in some cases leads to the exploitation of artisans. We can
orily understand ourselves and our place in the contemporary world better if we
understand what came before us. Without knowledge of heritage passed down from
generation to generation we cannot fully comprehend ouridentity.
The goal of the project is to establish
a Socio-CulturalInstitute vvithin our community
not only preserves traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage but also provides
economic empowerment to local artisans with an institution where they may instruct,
learn, exchange ideas, and sell to clients directly, serving as a catalyst for community
revitalization and cultural enrichment.
