Abstract:
Due to the increase in demand of energy, the global consumption of fossil fuels has increased massively. This has caused environmental pollution as the burning of fossil fuels results in global warming issues. The increased energy fuel demand has also resulted in the depletion of fossil fuel sources. Commonly used fossil fuels which include crude oil and coal are depleting which is another major energy crisis. Therefore, an alternative source of energy is needed to overcome the problems. Hydrogen is produced through ethanol steam reforming. This technique is preferred as it gives high efficiency of hydrogen.
The purpose of this work is to study the effect of catalyst (Ni/ZrO₂) to prevent any carbon deposits. For the synthesis of the catalysts, solution combustion method has been proposed. After synthesis, active metal will be impregnated to study its effect on the ethanol steam reforming process.
The catalyst can be analyzed by XRD, FTIR and composition of gases produced can be analyzed by gas analyzer.
The yield of produced gases can be examined by changing different parameters such as: temperature, weight hourly space velocity and steam/carbon ratio
