Abstract:
The objective of this thesis was to compile and calculate the excitation functions
of nuclear reactions important for production of the two important radioisotopes indium 110m and indium-111. Both radionuclides have potential for diagnostic procedures. In
the present work cross section data for reactions induced by proton and alpha particles on
isotopes of cadmium and silver were critically assessed. At first the experimental data
were scrutinized for consistency, then compared with the theoretical calculations using
three nuclear model codes which are ALICE-IPPE, EMPIRE and TALYS. Nuclear model
parameters were adjusted to obtain better agreement between theoretical and measured
data. Finally, a recommendation is given regarding the optimum energy range for the
desired radionuclide through each reaction.
