The periosteum is responsible for collagen arrangement and cell regulation, and it is important for bone integrity, modelling, remodeling particularly in bone healing. Periosteum transplantation has been used in clinical medicine due to its superior ability to deliver osteoprogenitor cells while also protecting scar tissues. Immunological rejection, periosteum availability, and donor side morbidity are, as with previous transplants, the key issues. It is envisaged that the use of tissue engineering ideas in periosteum-related therapy would increase the use of periosteum in bone therapies. It can also act as a substitute for natural periosteum. In this study, we have prepared scaffold for bilayer periosteum incorporated with Chitosan(CS), Polycaprolactone(PCL), Bioactive glass (BG) and Vitamin E (Vit E) through Freeze drying and Electrospinning methods. FTIR was used for detection of functional groups of scaffold. The physiological behavior was also investigated such as degradation, swelling behavior and porosity. With a suitable degradation rate, the porosity of composite scaffolds was determined to be in the range 100 percent. Invitro cell studies indicated that scaffold support growth and cell adhesion. The innovative composite scaffolds will be promising candidates for bilayer periosteum regeneration.enDepartment of ChemistryChemistryFA19Dr. Hamad KhalidChitosan-PCL-BioactiveGlass-Vitaminbilayer periosteum regenerationChitosan-PCL-Bioactive Glass-Vitamin E based Scaffold for bilayer periosteum regenerationThesis
