Paraffins are the alkanes that are saturated compounds having general formula
CnH2n+2. Paraffins can be nitrated to form nitroparaffins, commercially available
nitroparaffins are nitromethane, nitroethane, 1-nitropropane, and 2-nitropropane.
These are excellent solvents for a wide variety of organic compounds and polymers.
Nitroparaffins can undergo several reactions, which give them utility for the synthesis
of other compounds of commercial importance. |
