dc.description.abstract The present research study has been carried on the novel, The Diary of a Social Butterfly by Moni Mohsin. The research intends to look at the way the narrator has depicted social disparities through different socio and political events happening in the novel. The writer has tried to deliver the account of the problematic state of Pakistan. The researcher used narrative analysis to analyze and interpret the text. However, narrative analysis is used to analyze any text that is based on a story or an event. It is also helpful to perceive what the narrator had in his mind while writing the story. The theoretical framework of Marxism has been used to construct and carry out the research. The Marxism approach criticizes the socio- political problems going on in society hence it is used to show how social and political events can lead to social crises or disparities. The text in the novel gave an impression that the novel only talks about the lifestyle of Butterfly, who is a spoiled brat and a shopaholic. On the other hand, the novel not only discusses Butterfly‟s standard of living only but it also portrays the protagonist's life in problematic scenarios such as war, terrorism and earthquake, etc. Also, the research identifies how these issues of social instability create constant conflict between privileged and deprived. en_US
