dc.description.abstract The main aim of this thesis is to present some new results from the theory of Non-Newtonian fluids. Such results refer to different of motions of second grade and Maxwell fluids. The unsteady longitudinal and torsional oscillations of these Non-Newtonian fluids within a cylinder have been studied using Laplace and Hankel Transforms. The flow, in each case, is produced by prescribed sinusoidal shear stress at the boundary of the cylinder. In chapter 2 and 3 the longitudinal and torsional oscillations of a second grade fluid within infinite circular cylinder is discussed, while in chapter 4 and 5 the longitudinal and torsional oscillations of a Maxwell fluid within infinite circular cylinder is studied. en_US
