Smart Mirror: A Reflection of the Future

Abstract

Our project’s aim is to build a “Smart Mirror” which will be user-friendly, seamless and an aesthetically pleasant smart device. This will provide a new and futuristic way for users to interact with information. It is based on the idea that in the modern era, technological advances are being made at a rapid pace and everyone wants to have the most advanced, user-friendly and elegant technology. To meet the modern needs, new devices are being introduced, new apps are being developed which are very futuristic and user-friendly. And our project meets these modern needs. We will make use of the most commonly used furniture in the home, which is a mirror, and make it smart. Users will be able to get basic information like time, weather, calendar etc. in the most efficient way possible. Users will be able to interact with the smart mirror through voice commands. For example, users could just say “Show me today’s weather” and detailed weather information will be displayed or they could say “Set a reminder for a particular date” and a reminder will be automatically set and be displayed on the mirror for them to see. In this project, we will develop a website and then locally host it on a Raspberry Pi microcontroller. Data will be fetched from multiple famous sources like Google news, ESPN etc. and then would be displayed on the surface of the mirror.
